Time Warner Announcers ...

I think I remember Mac saying "Good!" When the SB WR was crawling off the field. Anyone else remember this?

I did hear that when I watched the telecast later. I was hoping I didn't or that he was referring to something else, but with Coach Mac you never know.

I remember following an SU-VaTech game in the late 90s on the ESPN2 bottom line. Just watched another game for hours and waited for our score to come up every 6-7 minutes.

Now we get a game against a 1-AA in HD and people bitch and moan.

We're a terrible people.

If you had to follow a VaTech v. Syracuse game by watching the scroll on ESPN2, you made little to no effort to see the game on television and the television provider you had was AWFUL. Every single VaTech v. Syracuse game was televised. I saw them all easily in Houston, Texas with DirecTv. No problems whatsoever. And if there was a game that my home system could not get, a sports bar with a satellite easily found it for me.

The only game that was difficult to see live was the Syracuse @ Toledo game ... we found the satellite coordinates at the bar through some connections, but the game was shot entirely from one end zone camera without announcers (which isn't all that bad). Otherwise, they were easily available.

Not true. There was an SU-VaTech game in the late 90s that was not on national TV. I'm pretty sure it was '97 because it was in Blacksburg, otherwise I'd have been at the Dome watching it in person. Maybe you got it on a regional net in Texas, or had GamePlan.

I KINDA know how to find games on TV and it wasn't on in CT, believe me.

And that wasn't exactly the point, dude. People have become so spoiled, and now feel entitled to see every single game on TV, that they've moved on to bitching about announcers and production values.

Being thankful we live in a day and age where pretty much every sporting event can be seen on TV and/or on your iPad/laptop/Xbox and thinking the overall presentation of said game was absolutely LOL-terrible aren't mutually exclusive propositions.

I actually enjoy Dale Drypolcher. He cracks me up and his voice just sounds Syracuse football to me, I can't really explain it. It's the same with Doug Logan.

Whenever I hear them, it brings me back to my favorite childhood memories. He may not be a decent announcer, but he must take some comfort knowing that he makes at least 1 person in the world happy like that.

Drypolcher is a homer... but he's our homer.

Nothing wrong with that...

Plus he was my highschool TV & Video teacher at ES-M... props to the Spartans...

I think Larson and Liedka actually do a pretty good job on non-conference SU basketball telecasts. They're not the blatant homers one might expect and they actually seem prepared and provide useful information about the opposing teams. I'm not as impressed with Time Warner's football work.

Agree about Larson. Don't feel the same about Liedka - he says a lot of really dumb things, he goes on tangents, and the accent kills me.

Give me Dave Cohen and Jim Satalin any day. (Seriously, though, I wonder why they don't find another former player to do the color.)

Just complete hacks. Awful. Clueless. Almost like listening to two drunks in a bar that are too busy drinking, talking to waitresses and basically not paying attention yet trying to give play-by-play and color commentary.

Time Warner would be better off simply paying extra to Syracuse to pipe in Gedney and Parks ...
Dale Drypolcher is a great guy and does a good job. Kudos Dale !!!!

He was my film making teacher when we used to have humanities for two credits

Basically since the mid to late 1990's Syracuse football has been on television 90%+ of the time. I expect games to be on television or available in some format and Stoney Brook is not exception. And when it is on television, I expect at least competent announcers, not complete hacks that had no clue what was going on in front of them whether it was down and distance, penalty calls, flow of the game etc. Just awful.

So YES, I am complaining ... these folks were God-awful.

Any complaint about their announcing is 100% offset (to me) by having Coach Mac in the booth saying "good" when they said a Stony Brook player is injured.

I liked em...good to have some cheerful local color in there.

i hear ya

i spent a lot of the 95 season watching the cnn headline news crawl. They were one of the first to have continuous scores from all of division 1.

That team was great -- two pros, network-quality commentators.

They were so good at what they did. No wonder that Cohen moved up to a bigger gig.

I just laughed so hard at this. I couldn't believe it when I heard it during the broadcast. Mac is priceless and senile all rolled into one.

Anyone wanna re-think how bad our guys are?

I was going to bump this thread, too. Apologies to Mark and Dale.

Kind of want to ask Time Warner for my money back; did not expect the Big Ten Network to hire a pair of 15-year-old fanboys who don't know how to read a roster to call the game.

And something tells me Ritchy Rene would agree with this.

I've never heard of Ritchy Rene but I'm a huge fan of Ricky Dene and Ricky Rene

It's okay TWCS employs guys who get names wrong and are huge homers because BTN does it, too?

Time warner names wrong = 2
Big ten network= 16 (not joking I just rewatched)
Time Warner = homers
Big Ten network= homers

So I'll ask again, wanna rethink your stance Zib?
