Back when he was at Channel 5, he would come up and hang out from time to time with us at the sports staff of WAER. Normal guy and all, he wasn't "Mike Tirico" yet. Funny thing was he swore like a sailor. Nothing wrong with that but I often wondered how he didn't slip up when doing a game.

I think, as a rule, all of the SU sports broadcasters play it pretty much right down the middle. It's that good Newhouse education.Mike is a truly nice human being. Very generous with his time -- not just to SU, but also to SU students and everyone else he meets. On the air, when doing an SU game, he always gives full disclosure, but his broadcasting is always professional with no hint of fandom.
