After day 13 the US medal count is as follows with 90 medals won

Gold 39
Silver 25
Bronze 26

of those medals the US women are responsible for

Gold 26
Silver 12
Bronze 13

for a total of 51

and the men

Gold 13
Silver 13
Bronze 12

for a total of 38

I'd be interested in your take

Most of the Women's Gold Medals came in Swimming, Track and Gymnastics.

Venus and Serena accounted for Tennis.

Kerri and Misty accounted for Beach Volleyball.

The Women got a Boxing medal (the Men's Boxing team sucked), and Shooting.

Team Golds in Soccer and Water Polo, and hopefully Volleyball and Hoops.

I suppose you'd have to look at the medal count pre-Title IX to see where the US Women improved.

I don't think Title IX had anything to do with Gymnastics, since none of the gymnasts are even old enough to be in college.

Do you think Title IX in any way caused a diminished gold medal count for the US men (if there is one, don't have time to look it up) over previous Olympics?

USA Boxing is so horribly managed that the Men's team will not get a medal for the first time in Olympic History.

The Men's Soccer team didn't even qualify for the Olympics this year.

The damn Jamaicans are just too fast. :D

Our 400m squad is all on the DL.

Our best athletes play football and basketball, while other country's brightest stars focus on all the non-revenue "Olympic Sports". It bites us in the ass every 4 years.

That's not really a Title IX issue ... it's a "nobody in the US cares about a lot of these sports" issue.
