Tom Izzo Has Entered The Chat

USA lacrosse finally put in new rules for this stuff. It's insane. And that's before you see coaches doing stupid things by placing top rated teams in lower divisions just to run up scores because they're awful people. Parents are the problem.

100%.

Doing it be class year instead of age with parents who have the income plus irrationality really make youth lacrosse a vortex of it's own.

You literally see middle schoolers who shave and high school guys going bald.

The worst example of this I ever encountered was Syracuse's own Charlie Lockwood. He formed a club team for his son ("Salt City Dawgs" or something like that). Then he had them play down a level to stomp everyone and feature his kid scoring a bazillion goals. One of their unfortunate opponents was my kid's team. It was so remarkably unsportsmanlike. Lost all respect for Lockwood after that.

It's OK to have some rules.

We age gate sports constantly: U18, U14, Mites, Pee Wees, Little League, Babe Ruth, Pop Warner, etc. We can age gate college sports too.

Bayside44 nailed it talking about parents cheating the system. My kid, an 18 year old freshman, is currently playing behind a 21 year old sophomore who was held back and PG'd. It's the way it is, but it all seems a bit foolish.

Yes, you can age gate kids as per all of your examples. Good luck trying to "age gate" legal adults (i.e. 18+). It's a lawsuit waiting to happen.

There are many factors to consider beyond just age...skill level, size, experience, when they were born, etc. Cooper Flagg had no issues playing against NBA players, let alone older college players. Yasin Willis came in at 6'1" 225 as a freshman. Point is some kids are just going to have advantages over others.

My kid was born a day after our school districts cutoff date for registration so is the oldest kid in the class. So he'll be almost 19 by default his freshman year of college. If he takes a redshirt year and then plays 4 years at his sport, he'll almost be 24 by the time he graduates. Heaven forbid he gets hurt and gets a medical waiver. Now he's 25. So now he can't fulfill his athletic eligibility because he'll have to play against a 19 year old? That's ridiculous.

How are you going to regulate those situations as opposed to someone that reclassifies back a class, takes a post grad year, etc? You can't based purely on age.

I think you're exaggerating a bit. My sister was in the same boat. She missed the age cutoff by 2 weeks. She started kindergarten at 5 and turned 6 a few months later. She was 18 when she graduated and turned 19 during first semester of her freshman year in college. Most of her class turned 19 a few months later. Assuming your kid didn't have to repeat any grades, If he were to redshirt and get the waiver, he'd be 24 at the end of spring semester of his 6th year, not 25. Make the cutoff 25 and that leaves plenty of cushion.

The sport is brainless

Who are the dunces who couldn't see this coming. Other sports have figured this out.

If you're 25 and injuries cost you a year, the next step is to get a job

This is hysterical.

This cannot possibly be true, can it?

This is his fifth season playing college hoops and he spent the last two years in, and graduated from, high school in New Jersey.
6th I believe

Most tourney directors try their best not to let that happen. I suspect in this case Lockwood used his star power in the lax world to force it.

Honestly, the worst 2 people I encountered in youth lax were both SU players. Roy Colsey is the other one. A complete a s s hole.

It’s true that he was dismissed from the team after his 6th year in college - 5 years playing. He was their leading scorer too.

I always really disliked him on Auburn (Baker-Mazara) - seemed like a nutcase, kinda obnoxious like Copeland...but a bit worse.

OK, Tom, let’s see you not start your star player…

"I don't even know if I'm going to start him the next game," Izzo said after the loss, which dropped Michigan State to fourth place in the Big Ten standings.

Fears did it again in the game against Michigan to Cadeau - he got called for it. Kid has a problem.

Wonder why it’s only become a big issue now (that I ever heard) as a junior at Michigan State? How and when did he pick up that habit? Very strange.

Maybe Michigan State had Draymond come back to campus to speak to the team and he inspired them to kick people in the nuts too?

What's he on now, a 10 game streak of trying to trip or kick someone in the nuts?
