Tommy Gun...

Some QBs being cut today that the Giants might be interested in as #3. That’s includes guys like Colt McCoy.

One note re Colt McCoy, the Cards are going full tank mode to get Caleb Williams. Colt is close to being cooked, but they are looking to go young and a lot of vets they are keeping are on one year deals (read: no real legit vet is signing a one year deal).

He took sacks that he shouldn't have, and couldn't escape any. We were 110th, 105th, and 119th Dino's first 3 years. Yet somehow we had a functional O. Also his sack rate was higher than any of the other QBs who played during the same time.
he had an RB on the OL in 2020 along with a bunch of real non-D1 players for covid and got destroyed.

then got hurt again with another porous line.

he only played 7 games his last 2 years here, but love everyones definitive analysis.

regardless, lets stop discussing the Cuse quitter.

and lets see tomorrow what the NFL thinks.

So fine. So we’d have been what 100th, 110th, 115th? The o line blew. Full stop.

We’re not all of a sudden in the top 50 if Tommy throws the ball away.

Well we don’t know that, that’s not a skill he was familiar with.

and if he did, the haters would kill him on completion %.

enough.

He graduated. Quit what?

Exactly. He just wasn’t that great here other than being a show stopper at camps and 7v7 drills. Enough is enough.

its ceralinly sad that 7v7 success for Cuse is not worth watching for recruiting.

And people use that access to destroy, when every program worth a damn does the opposite.

He 100% quit on Cuse so fluck him, but enough of stupid analysis.

Often times a change is good. Be it personal work school etc. Shrader made a change, and it has been great for him. Same with TD. My two cents is he was a bad fit for Syracuse. SU didn't have the line to protect him and Tommy didn't have the vision and or running ability to deal with it. I hope that he sticks as he seemed to be a great kid.

Tommy was given the keys to the car to start the year in 2019, 2020 and 2021. He had fair opportunities to succeed but it just didn't work out.

19 he had a very good year. 20 he got hurt in game 4 for the season.

Who quit on who? Once Shrader started TD never saw the field, even when we desperately needed to pass. SU made it clear his time was done.

I always swear I won’t get sucked into a TD thread but….

He quit on the team. Period.

I have no problem with a guy leaving at the end of the season. It happens all the time now. But he quit in mid-season.

He should have done what every QB that had played behind him did: stay sharp and keep working in case the guy in front of you goes down and the team needs you to go in there.
That is what leaders and team-first guys do.

There are any number of seniors who don’t start. I don’t see any of them deciding to quit halfway through their senior year because they aren’t starting. That is a team-first attitude rather than treating the place as your own personal fantasy camp.

As an SU grad I hope he does well in life. As for his football career, it is meaningless to me. If I ever make another post about him again, somebody reach through the computer and smack me in the head.

It was the right thing for his career and it took Dino off the hook to switch back if Shrader struggled.

I believe he doesn’t get the year at Illinois, that got him in the league, if he played another snap at SU

It was the best thing for both parties.

He had another year of eligibility. No need to leave the team half way through the season. I dont pound TD as much as others but there is some fault in him too.

It’s simple, Tommy needs an NFL line to throw behind. If he gets rattled (specifically in college) then watch out the ball is going 10 yards over the outside receiver and out of bounds. Partially on our line and partially on Tommy’s lack of play making ability when a play breaks down. It’s like he didn’t have enough “backyard ball” in him. I can see how he is a perfect practice QB in the league. At a school like cuse where our line will probably never be tops of the ACC, we need a play maker. That’s why Garrett works, dungey works, and why we are recruiting to this style more. It just simply did not work out here due to that IMO. Doesn’t mean he is a bad QB, just not the kind we needed here. Good for him to get paid to play FB. That’s amazing and should not be looked down on at all.

Good points. I just wish he stayed the entire season

If a QB needs perfect conditions to succeed, then they are not a good QB. He is a good thrower. There is more to QBing than just throwing.

The giants signed Tommy to the practice squad.
Dungey and now TD on the G-Men practice squad. I would pay good money to watch him play a regular season NFL game but we will probably never know.

Yes, that’s when Cuse officially abandoned the pass.

Didn’t a WR leave too?

Covid year shouldn’t count against anyone at Cuse, egads!!

The next year he quit.

In a way, didn’t get much of a shot here, but whatever, he’s Illinois property now.

For the record, Dungey was in Giants off season program as a TE, not a QB….and was cut before camp.

Dick in a HOF poster and I’d rarely disagree with any of his takes, but I think this is a bit harsh.

Dino essentially invited TD to leave and Tommy took him up on it.

I mean there are a lot of atrocious NFL OL’s as well. Just needs to be the perfect fit. Illinois with their strong defense and running game was it last season.
