Tomorrow is a must win

Based on the criteria, and who still plays who, I think Maryland, Baylor or Oregon Wednesday is likely

A close Oregon loss to SDST would be bad for us I think and bump us below Oregon (as 2 loss, worse margin) And bump SDST up, despite a 40 point loss.

Oregon has to win, or lose by 8

Creighton Buttgers and UNLV are locked in Thursday.

"Yes, teams from the same conference can play against each other in the third game (Championship Day or consolation games) of the Players Era Festival.

The NCAA Men's Basketball Oversight Committee granted a specific waiver for the 2024-25 season that permits more than one team from the same conference to participate in the same Multiple-Team Event (MTE) and potentially face each other. "
Good flag. Missed it. Thought it was for any future opponent but missed carve out for conf.

They changed the rule that was for 2024-25 but for 2025-26 you can't play someone in your conference. It is looking like we would be on pace to play ND so it will be interesting to see what is going to happen.

Ah so I’m not going crazy. Looked at this the other day so thought I had remembered it right.

If we win the next and lose to Tennessee, 12-8 acc will likely get us in this year. The SEC will lose at least three or four bids. Big 12 might pick up two or three. Mountain west will lose at least 2. Big east may hold serve. The bubble will expand for 3-4 ACC And Big 10 teams, we need to be one of those.

Also, I think the tournament committee might take into an account that we did not schedule the teams we play in the ACCSEC tournament or Vegas.

We will have three likely top 15 losses, but I believe if they compared us to other teams, they would rightly note that we could’ve drawn Oregon, Baylor, and Missouri, rather than Houston, Tennessee and Kansas.

Can switch SD State with Rutgers to avoid conference matchup

UNLV is locked into a Thursday game as the Runnin’ Rebels lost on Monday, cannot make the Top 4 and, as the local school, will fill a bottom four slot.

Rutgers and Creighton are both 0-2 and ranked below Syracuse based on their margin in losses. Syracuse has a point differential of minus-15, while Creighton and Rutgers are both minus-25.

Syracuse’s fate is based on two games that will be played late Tuesday: Oregon vs. San Diego State and UNLV vs. Alabama.

Syracuse would need UNLV to beat Alabama (unlikely) by six points or more (even more unlikely). The game tips off at 9 p.m. Pacific (midnight Eastern).

The most realistic out for the Orange rides on the outcome of Oregon-San Diego State, which starts at 8 p.m. Pacific (11 p.m. Eastern).

Oregon lost by 11 points to Auburn on Monday, while San Diego State got thumped 94-54 by Michigan. (The Players Era caps point differential at 20 points, regardless of the final margin).

So an Oregon win by any margin would put Syracuse on Wednesday’s schedule.

San Diego State would need to beat Oregon by five points or more for the Orange to avoid Thursday’s bottom four games.

Syracuse’s potential opponents on Wednesday would come from a host of teams with 1-1 records, including St. John’s and Baylor.

No I think we can play an ACC team and Tennessee but I am pretty sure we can't play Houston again.

Well, we play Tennesse in a week, so I don't think they'd schedule that one. I heard Maryland was a possibility.

In any event, we'll have the most valuable film on Tennessee - this game they are playing right now against Houston, the team we played yesterday.

We have film of what worked and what didn't against Houston, and we will see film of how Tennessee matched up with them, what we can learn from their approach.

Tomorrow's game is important. I didn't want to dismiss that. Because it makes me doubt our ability to go 10-8 or 11-7 in the ACC. But losing these first two games isn't crushing -- would have been really rewarding though.

We want to get that one tomorrow and not rely on Tennessee. That being said, 11-7 in the ACC will almost certainly get you a good enough resume to get in the tournament. You can't get to 11 wins in the ACC without building quality. It's way different than last year. Of course the real question is could we get to 11-7?

Looking at the schedule as of now we have
8 Q1 games
7 Q2 games
3 Q3 games

You can't get to 11 wins without getting at least a few Q1 wins.
What are the 3 Q3?games? I only see Pitt at home and maybe Cal? Even BC, GTech and Pitt on the road will be Q2.

Nah we should play tomorrow I think there will be at least 5 0-2 teams and we will have the best margin so we will face to the worst 1-1 team tomorrow
I believe TV matchups come into play with the consolation games.

I hate to be a polyanna but I disagree. I know this is out of bounds for the board but I think football is in and will be in good chape. We have a lot of money, still. The major donors haven't bailed on Fran. Could share a story but I won't because it's not mine to share but we have dough to do well in the portal. I know what we have seen over the last 7 weeks has been ugly. But this upcoming class is the best we have done in maybe 30 years. I believe that changes are on the way for the staff. Just my thought. Hoop, I'm more concerned. Yes, our defense has improved but even with Donnie, he won't be here next year. We will see
Honestly, where will Donnie be next year?

Not the NBA but I sort of think he moves on somewhere. Maybe the G League. Maybe another school.
Sadly for Donnie, I’m really not sure another program would take a chance on a guy who can’t seem to play more than a handful of games without the “ lower body” giving out on him. I hope he is able to come back soon, stay healthy and improve his game .

The first thing Fran needs to do out of the portal is get a very good QB to back up Angeli.
