On the Dan Lebatard show (ESPN Radio) both Coach K & JB are going to be on at the same time. It should be interesting/fun.
I wish SWC could listen to it and report!
Any links?
Fabulous job! Thanks for doing this.No way I can match the likes of SWC...but here goes...
It was fun, and for the most part, both JB and K talked the entire time, not many questions from the either Dan or Van Gundy as both JB and K went back and forth on their own. It was kind of a love fest between the two HOF's, very apparent how the two of them very much respect & care for each other..."special friends" was the words used by each.
JB said how the two games this year were spectacular and apologized that his end game antics took "a little bit" away from Saturday's game. K said both games were likely two of the best in college basketball all year. Stated that he and Boeheim spoke for a bit approximately 20 minutes after the game...all good!
Throughout the session, K continuously referred to JB as Boeheim, an attest to their very good friendship.
LeBatard mentioned to JB about his vocal candor on expansion, etc. JB stated that the Big East was great at one time, but it had changed tremendously and was certain to break up as it did. As great as the BE was, stated that SU is now in even a better conference. All teams for the most part are along the East Coast, only big travel distance is Miami, one in which, they could live with (for obvious reasons). K chimed in and stated that no conference benefited better than the ACC with the admittance of Syracuse...even mentioned football was valuable recognizing its history. Stated that what an asset SU was...stating it was a top five historical program, clearly insinuating it's a blue blood school.
JB said with the new rule, he still believes the call should've been a block, no different than how they called the one just a few minutes earlier against Silent G. Coach K, when asked, said he thought it was a charge...both JB and K laughed a bit after words with JB stated that's fine as people will see things differently from their particular perspective. Mentioned the non-call block that Rak had in the waning moments up in the Dome was a good call as well, but that was in SU's favor, whereas, this one wasn't...a way of things balancing out he guessed...K, of course, thought otherwise as well regarding the Rak block...more chuckling ensued...
JB stated (of course kidding) that he & Mike pre-planned the 1-1 split this year...maybe a little bit of awkward silence immediately afterwards after likely realizing to himself, geez, I hope everyone realizes I'm joking...as we all have come to learn and love with JB over the years...
JB talked again about his moves and form on the technical blow-up moment, stating that his palates he has been doing twice a week for a year and half now has helped. K just laughed it off, stating that palates Boeheim is referring to is likely no more than a favorite new Italian dish of some sort or even some new type of crossword puzzle Jim has taken up. Stated that Boeheim (again this is the only way he referenced JB) hardly looked athletic as he stated Boeheim couldn't even get his sport jacket off. JB laughed, stated it was planned the entire time, stating that not taking off his jacket completely was proof that he was in complete control...more laughter.
This lead to some jabs between the two regarding some stories. JB referenced one time where he and PJ Carlisimo went to Duke for some USA basketball functions the only place where K wanted to go to eat was ARBY'S...stated that his friendship over the years has helped K's palate and with better dining experiences...a bit of laughter ensured...K came back with another story about "Boeheim" and PJ. Stated how the two of them were assistant coaches and literally showed up as a USA Basketball game was tipping off at Cameron. Stated the two guys were late as they showed up in shorts with golf shoes still on...very funny...a lot more laughter.
JB stated he could tell another good story, but that as K would do, just as he did here, trump JB again with a better story. JB made a comment how K has some trump type footage of JB falling off a chair at a practice or something. I think LeBatard uttered he thought he saw a photo of that. (I think we all remember that photo of JB dosing on a chair that made it around the internet last summer). But JB stated, that wasn't it...
In closing, JB stated that this is a great new rivalry...and that though it is intense, it's friendly. Stating all rivalries do not have to spew hatred, etc., implying how many of the SU players are friends with the Duke players. LeBatard uttered that give it some more time, as it may not always be the case. JB stated that it will always be friendly due to the coaches involved, and because of the coaches, the players will follow suit. Making a statement of how attitude, leadership, etc. starts at the top and followed by example.
JB stated how people 30 years from now will remember JB...implying that he will still be alive and kicking in 30 years by his comments...
K ended by saying how he and Boeheim should have their own show together, since the two host barely asked any questions...a lot of laughter ensued by all...
It was very entertaining. No matter how one may feel at any particular moment about JB, one thing is very clear to me...Syracuse University and its fans really are so very fortunate to have JB as our coach. His legacy will allow us to continue to appreciate what he created for all of us fans for all these years, and for many more in the future...even when he is finished. SU is Elite and anything falling short of that in the future would be a colossal disservice by his beloved university and his good name.
Fabulous job! Thanks for doing this.

Move over, SWC! You have competition. Well done! And a good read.No way I can match the likes of SWC...but here goes...

LeBatard asked JB if he had seen the tape of his antics, said he has not, didn't need to as he is known for not being a big fan of watching tape...not like someone else he knows...cough, cough...K responded he didn't need to watch any tape of Boeheim as it isn't something he takes much pleasure in...laughter all around...K than uttered neither one of them can likely stand watching the other on tape...more laughter...
