Tottenville situation

this may come off as dickish but whatever.

she had sex at age 15 with 4 guys at the same time ... I know times have changed, but she left herself open to criticism and even though I do not condone the continual harassment, I understand some heat she received for her actions

unfortunately it crossed a line and she felt she had no other outlets due to failures of adults in her life, and led to this point.

sad story all around that four kids who took advantage of an opportunity that presented itself will probably have their lives ruined, and a little girl who made a mistake had such little support that she took the ultimate course of action and made a bigger mistake

:( sad

I agree that it is sad, but I disagree vehemently with saying that "four kids took advantage of an opportunity." That was not an "opportunity". Both sides should have known better.

They did

She presented herself to them

They did what a lot of high school guys would do in that situation

Now they will pay, just not as deep as her and her family (if they were involved)

Well, all I can say is that I will be teaching my son otherwise. I don't care what "a lot of high school guys would do." 1000 wrong decisions doesn't suddenly make things right.

I really hope those guys suffer psychologically for the rest of their lives. Scumbags.

I know you're young and yes, it's an opportunity but its a bad choice bc its against the law. Kids should know there may be consequences for their actions. If your at a counter and the cash register is open are you going to take advantage of that opportunity?

Look if it were your daughter I don't think you'd feel the same way. Even without the rape you'd be flippin out if your kid was being harassed relentlessly. I know I would be.

Very true, and by all accounts this girl didn't have parents to advocate for her. She was in foster care.

What is against the law? Running a train on a girl?

Last I knew we had some hoops players do the same thing a few years back ...

They were all under 18, so rape does not come in to play as she willingly participated in the act.

I wish the situation never reached the point it did, however there has to be personal accountability at some point in life, even in youth.

Having sex with a 15 year old girl is against the law, but, yes things are not as black and white if the guys are under 18 themselves, but it still could be prosecuted. Even if she's a willing participant. Typical though to blame the victim - if she didn't want to be bullied she shouldn't have had sex?

The main point here though is the bullying. It's wrong and when it leads to a suicide people need to be held 'accountable' - personally accountable just like you said.

When the victim kills themselves no one cares. When the victim decides to turn things into a Columbine then oh know the person who was being bullied is sick, crazy, demented etc. Lets blame the guns or the gun dealers. Lets not look at the root cause which was the bullying.

NY needs to pass anti-bullying laws just like Mass did.

I presume you don't have children.

Law enforcement sources cautioned against saying she’d been “bullied to death.” The girl was living in a foster home, as both of her parents had died years earlier, she suffered from depression, and she was taking medication, those sources said.
“Everyone tries to scramble for some outside sources,” one source familiar with the investigation said. “ Other problems she had led to this situation.”

Perhaps we should wait for all the facts to come out

She had some other contributing factors no doubt but her case aside, it doesn't diminish the fact that bullying in general has become a real problem with serious consequences. I don't want my kids to be on either end of it.

When I first saw this story, my first reaction was that I hoped Gus Edwards wasn't involved.

Then, as a parent, I thought about the girl who was the victim of the bullying and how she was driven to suicide as a result of being harassed / tormented perpetually.

Just an awful, awful incident.

it may (age dependent) have been just as illegal for her to be having sex witg them.

yeah, she took advantage of those poor boys.

just to be clear though, i don't care that she had sex.

I agree with you about the problem of bullying. And the internet only magnifies the problem.
I'm just saying perhaps all the facts need to come out before we make judgements.
There is probably guilt here but the Duke Lacrosse incident is still vivid in my mind.

Understood but I'm also not saying anybody is guilty of anything. I said in another thread that things 'could' get ugly because she was also reportedly involved in a gang bang with the football players. Nothing more nothing less.

Seems out of line and predatory for the NY Post to be running with such detail in the first place. Specifically detailing the sexual actions of a 15 year old minor? I thought there was more in place to protect. Sickening part is that more than likely the Post is having a field day with this because the girl has no parents/family to protect her... sometimes i really hate the press.

The Post is owned by Newscorp. Enough said.

Oh yeah, here's today's front page:

:( sad

Yes, this is just terrible for these four kids. LOL - show some class, someone died. I lost all respect for you with this beauty of a post.

Anyone who preys on the weak is a scumbag. Young boys should be taught to act like men, show class, show respect, and have some dignity for themselves/others.

I also sad it was sad that she had no support and she felt that her only option was the one she took, and that it was a sad story all around. It is sad that four inner city youth will have their lives ruined because of lack of parenting on top of the tragic death of the 15 year old.

But there is always more to the story - the NY Post may have jumped the gun in its initial report, as the girl had numerous other issues going on that could have factored in her unfortunate decision.

The intent wasn't to cherry pick since saying she "made a bigger mistake" seems to imply that she is an idiot while the 4 boys were just doing what boys do. Hopefully I'm wrong in assuming that based on what you had already previously written.
