Transfer portal offers (DT/WR)

A clear example of weight not being everything - the best OLine we've had in a long time was the 2012 unit, and none of them weighed 300 pounds.

yeah coaching and scheme matter for sure as well as agility/ athleticism. Smart tough kids too

Exactly. And bnoro pointed it out years ago - there are only a couple of those a season and they quickly get snatched up by the blue bloods.

and why they moved the to the 3-3-5. Changed scheme because they struggled to recruit exactly the type of DT that most are still hoping we can sign. I do to but it ain't easy and why I can understand Dino not just signing some 300 pound statue that will never really play

Should we not be offering every single defensive tackle in the portal who is around 300 pounds? That was killing us this year against the run. Kevon Darton played like a man, but is clearly under sized. It'll be nice to have Terry Lockett back, but we really need a reliable 3rd option here, unless they are really confident in some underclassmen putting on a lot of weight and strength.

I feel similar about WR. Gadsen and Alford made some plays, but it seems mostly that they are big targets than they could consistently get open. It would be nice to have a 6'2 - 6'3 receiver who can reliably get open running routes. Disappointing that Anthony Queely didnt develop into that guy.

Maybe the offers are under reported. My sense is that from the recruiting thread and 247 that maybe we only know by guys who are tweeting their offers, but there is a real lack there, when depth is consistently an issue

Any one have any thoughts or insight who it doesnt appear Babers is being more aggressive in the portal with DT/ WR?
you can be 300 and get blown off the ball

I don't understand the obsession with DT weight either, strength and durability are much more important in our defensive scheme.
Well, could it be weight has a lot to do with durability and strength especially over a 15 week regular season?
Clemson averaged 180 ypg this season ...BUT 293 against us.
PITT averaged 181 ypg this season... BUT (just) 161 with a 2nd string back against us.
Wake Forest averaged 133 ypg this season... But 212 against us
ND averaged 183 ypg this season...BUT 246 against us.
FLA ST. averaged 218 ypg this season..But 230 against us.

Our rush defense was 65th this season with 9 ACC schools better when looking at YPG.

ANybody on our Dline make all conference?

YES at times (passing downs) you can get away with playing a 220 lb DE or a 265 lb tackle.
But not against a quality running game week after week. Those 2nd halves are no picnic.

You can have 300 pound blobs and 250 pound cut guys that are much stronger and better athletes. Just being heavy doesn’t mean you’re going to hold up or perform any better than the next guy.

Who said anything about blobs?
Do you want to repeat what we saw the last 6 games of the season?
Take a look at the 2 deeps on depth charts and see how many interior linemen weigh
less than 270. Gotta be a reason, don't ya think?

I have said this a 1000x. Do we have the money to get these kids though.

Are we looking at this the same way if our offense didn’t tank during that same stretch? Pitt, ND and even FSU the defense would have given up less yards if our offense showed up. If we won against Pitt would the DL struggles against the run be looked at the same way?
