Trashiest win I've ever seen

I was really unimpressed with TJ Ferguson. I didn’t get a chance to watch the game last week because I was traveling but there were at least 2 clean shots on Angeli where he Ole’d a guy rushing basically right at him to double another guy that didn’t need to be doubled.

That and the blindside hits on Angeli - that stuff needs to get fixed ASAP.

That sucked horribly but thats a game we lose every damn time with babers, shafer, probably marrone and definitely g rob.

It doesnt turn around in one season.

I’ll plant my flag here and say Fran’s the guy and I’ll take the win and move the hell on.

Anyone who says its back to the same old is casual or blind
Actually, the evidence available leaves two or three possibilities

A - it is the same o same o, with Pena, Allen,& McCord manifesting a 10 win aberration, from some coaches who can recruit, but cannot coach, evidenced by multiple WTFWs last season & specials & a D that isn't good

Or, B) its a turnaround, but w the convenient caveat that we just have to wait until the schedule is easier

Or, C) its a turnaround w no caveats

I hope for the latter

I'm glad you don't care it was Connecticut, but for one of the weakest teams on our schedule I don't know how you're not worried how it scales up.

They had a ton of 7-10 yard runs, especially on first down. In the second half we did a better job of tackling but we almost blew it at the end when they ran the same play twice in a row for back to back firsts (IIRC).

Against a non-P4 that is a huge red flag.
I agree, fully concerning potentially one of the weakest teams on our schedule. However that is why they say we have the toughest schedule in America. I also do not believe Pittsburgh, Boston College as well as a couple teams on our schedule are definitively superior than Connecticut. They are a ridiculously well coached, highly functioning team who should have won that game. I honestly thought before the game started we were more than likely going to lose. Why? Because we are so young and honestly have significant challenges. If our defense plays the way it did today and our offense plays the way it did last week for three quarters I am hopeful we can have a 7 and 5 / 8 and 4 season. If not we are done. massive amounts to clean from a motion and set scheme, massive amounts. We better learn how to run the ball to a better degree as well as passblock to protect our defense, otherwise not good. Non P4 makes absolutely no difference to me at all. There are several non P4 schools that are very good, and Yukon is definitely one of the best. They better clean it up and run the ball, we will see.

I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.

That he had a quiet 100 yard game?

Usually a 100 yard game receiving is a big game, especially for a tight end. A fairly imposing performance.

Is that the feeling you got about Villari's game today? It's not how it felt to me. I suspect if you asked most fans who had the best receiving game today they'd say JRS for the TDs, or would mention Gill because of the sideline grab. But it was Villari. Thus a quiet game.

I don't know why you're trying to pick a fight about how I chose to describe something. Zero need for that.
I think the radio guys agree with you. When they were going over stats they sounded surprised he had 100 yards.

It's weird that someone would see that comment as insulting to Villari. Saying he quietly got 100 yards reminds me of when Moten would get a quiet 25 points. It just meant he did nothing flashy but still filled the stat sheet.

Great comparison.

UConn last year lost to 3 ACC teams by a total of 15 points. (Duke-5, SU-7 and Wake Forest - 3). They compete for sure.
They’re not Miami or Clemson but I think they’re comparable (at least this season) to middle to lower tier Power 4 schools. I think they’ve done a good job in the portal with both talent that needed time to mature and guys coming up a level.

Exactly. Just like Moten.

It was quiet bc the yards were gained on drives which later stalled. If the catches had involved TDs or were on drives where we scored, it'd feel 'louder'.

Time to try a few plays with split backs, Willis and James and try to get James outside to move the Linebackers and Secondary away from the line of scrimmage.
If we aren't able to establish a good running attack we will be in trouble in all the upcoming games.

I'm delighted that we saw some 2 back sets in both games already.
That's a way to maximize the abilities of both Willis and Nixon. (And get the young speedster on the field.)
