Trebor Pena transferring to PSU

yep folks are in la la land and the post about Fran being smacked by reality is spot on. Next year will be earth shaking for Fran to confront directly the realities that come directly into his face challenging his mindset and philosophies.

Untested new likely raw qb, complete overhaul at many positions including wr that all think we're deep. THAT SCHEDULE, The NIL reality that brings our best going away with regularity now. All that spell trouble for competitiveness this year. .500 would be an accomplishment.

Now when it all goes down, a direct challenge to all he believes in what does he do? Bolt for greener pa$ture$ like the rest of them do including Pena here or hang here to try and keep the program at least competitive, while likely not ever being in line for a shot at a NC. Gonna be interesting to see how things shake out but think you and I know the final ending.

Yes, next season looks really tough. The roster looks like it is better set up for 2026, when these Fran recruits have had 2 or 3 seasons of DART (whoever is left among them ...).

Fran probably sees it as a big opportunity for some signature wins. But it's a steep hill to climb if we don't add another half dozen quality players in the next window.

the guys that set up us for a decent 2026, one can only hope theyre still here after 2025! And not pull a Pena...this is the new normal, its not gonna end.

Perhaps you're right about the McCord effect and injury history, and those are compelling reasons for him to maximize his earnings.

Perhaps he's not holding Fran Brown hostage, he just already has a degree and can "get a better job," in a sense.
I understand where you are coming from but from my standpoint when you are a captain of a team you should act like a captain and be a leader. If he wanted to renegotiate he should have done that before he signed his original contract for nil. But I must say this entire nil and transfer portal thing is so completely out of control. I don't ever think the intention was to make all these football players and basketball players one year mercenaries

Fixed it for you.

Ehhh, Pena wasn’t a Fran recruit. He has loyalty to him but not as much as some of the guys that Fran brought in from high school.

Remember Pena spent several years here under Dino and one under Fran. His allegiance isn’t as strong as some of these other guys.

It's kind of like on The Office when Josh Porter left the Stamford branch and leveraged his Dunder Mifflin offer to get a gig at Staples.

Here is the reality of the situation...

It sounds like Pena came to Coach Brown telling him that "hey i got this offer and if you dont match it I am going to take it." To which Fran reminded him that they already had a deal in place and he knew this before.

I see this on a daily basis with students in housing at Ithaca College. Its mind blowing how this generation has such a sense of entitlement. From all accounts, Pena was upset that he did NOT get the counter offer from Fran Brown. He felt that he could use this as a basis for negotiation. We all know Coach Fran isnt that guy.

If he wanted to do a negotiation he needed to do that back in December. Doing it at this point, in Coach Browns eyes is turning their back on him and his teammates. That is not loyalty. That is why Fran told him, if you want to go, go. This is not the first time Pena has done this to Fran since the season ended.

Syracuse will miss Trebor, but he is not unreplaceable.
What, Talcott Hall isn’t good enough for these kids, excuse me, young adults anymore?!

You know what since these young men want to be treated like professional athletes there is no more wishing well. If he goes to Miami that’s like leaving the Cowboys for the Redskins. Im done with him. He really only had 1 good year and is a huge injury risk. It’s time to strictly cheer for the cloth and if you stick it out with us you’ll be loved forever. If not, kick rocks.

Dude what’s up?! Hope all things are well.

As for this, your very legit point I fear won’t weigh on the thought processes nor consciousness of todays kids looking to make max $, sad to say. Much like you described seeing at Ithaca. As those kids say, “it is what it is”, and we are who we are.

Meaning here in the world of College sports, we ain’t chopped liver, but we aren’t caviar either!

It’s exactly the same as it has been since the 90s lmao

But you would be surprised the amount of demands we get and how shocked the students are when we say “no”
As a proud alum, and former denizen of the upper quads and upper terraces, I have no doubt there are some very demanding students, as well as their parents.

Now thats rosters are 100 something kids we can get cherry picked every single season. McCord was a gift that fell into our lap. The Oregon, Miami, Texas, Ohio St, Georgia, etc have unlimited war chests.

You would be surprised.

I’ve never seen a coaching staff interact with the student athletes the way this coaching staff does.

Watching them talk and hype up the players during warm ups for the Spring game was special. Seeing the HC do it was tremendous.

He’s building something special here. Losing Pena blows but….its all going to work out for the Orange.

Watch out for 2026

Fran recruited Pena out of HS. He recommitted and came to SU.

This will be Pena's 6th year to be exact.

I don't know fellas, I just don't get that worked up over 1 guy leaving when we are literally carrying 15 WR's on our roster, not counting the frosh. We need a balanced offense and a better defense, but an elite slot receiver although really helpful is not going to win us games on the road against the 5 top 10 teams we play.

What hurts is the captain part. He put Coach Fran and his teammates in a spot where they had to put him out to pasture. This is as much as around and Find out as it gets...

I also think Florida schools are really going to go hard at our guys. Let's not forget that this kid Calvin Russell was at our spring game, he could've prob walked to Miami's Spring game or the 2 dozen other one's he was invited to but he came up to CNY in April. These schools know they can't recruit or sell how Fran sells so they're going to massively overpay in the short term to nip some of these recruiting pipelines Fran is building down there.

"Several Syracuse football 2025 three-star signees went to Miami Northwestern, and the Orange staff is in pursuit of numerous four-star recruits in other classes who attend this juggernaut program, including Russell."
