Trebor Pena transferring to PSU

He’s got NY right there in his name!!!
MUST SIGN.

So… is this the “player to be named later” in our WR trade with The Ewe?

If so -

Ill Allow It GIF

Just like the hoops transfer portal it's money first and then playing time next. Pena was going to be on the field plenty and be paid well (not as much as the big dawg offers but enough).

However if Hixon's new offense is only going to target him half or a third as much then that's a problem for him when Sundays come. Also remember Fran was asking Pena to become an elite punt / kick returner which may have been a way to keep him involved as much as possible to help Special Teams but likely would've taken offensive reps which may have been a problem for Pena. *Good way to get Injured is taking every return rep with a special teams unit that has not been great...

People want to pretend it's schedule or deficiencies from people leaving last year. It's none of that crap. We're building the offense overall around what Rickie can do, not pretending like we have a replacement McCord or that Pena will put up the #'s he did last year.
Making Pena an elite kick returner would have given him another leg up in trying for pros. one more tool in his belt.

Which part.

-I think there's sound clips from Spring practice of Fran telling Pena he wants him to have 10 return TDs.
-No way we run an offense with Rickie passing the ball 60 times like McCord did. Even if Pena is target #1 and gets the vast majority of catches he would still have half as many catches as last year
There is no way we dont run our offense thru Pena if he had stayed and to say different tells me someone doesnt think Nixon is that smart.

He did. Syracuse hired Coach Fran on or about 11/27/2023. Georgia still had to play the SEC Championship game on 12/2/23 and the Orange Bowl vs FSU on 12/30/23.

I haven't heard Coach Fran say anything about Pena not living up to his commitment or about Pena not being DART. I've only seen that stuff here.

Didn't Coach Fran say he intended to help Pena after next season? Doesn't sound like Coach Fran is holding any kind of grudge. Maybe people here should consider taking a similar approach.

I respect Coach Fran for not paying a player more than he thinks the player is worth. And I respect Pena for doing what he thinks is best from him.

I hate to see him go. I was shocked when I first heard the news. But it's time to move on and figure out this roster.

Trebor Pena, thanks for the memories. I wish you the best unless you're lining up against the Orange, then its Go Orange.

Coach Fran, thanks for being true to who you are. You do you. We have your back!

Go Orange!
I can't respect someone for making a deal and not honoring it. If Pena had left last Dec., I would have no problem with that. But he didn't. He made a deal and accepted being a captain.

Pena literally got a better offer that we were unwilling or unable to match.

It's always about the money. Like Rhino said in a follow up tweet, "he is making a decision that is best for him".
If it was “coach I’ve been offered a large amount, can you match” that’s actually an honorable thing to do. He could say see ya and be out the door without giving SU an opportunity to counter.

If he was just trying to shake the program down for more money, awful behavior.

No amount of loyalty or gratitude would stand in the way of $2M in compensation to play football for anyone here.

On first read, I thought “man, I wish Fran left out the questioning a teammate part - not a great look”.

It blows my mind the money part is what got Dad upset - that as obvious and innocuous as it gets.

Bad look by Rhino with what he said and trying to back pedal quickly. Have a ton of respect for him and all he did for the S but come one man, it's all about the money.

I don't think Fran will ever regret what he said in this interview. The man speaks the truth, sometimes the truth hurts and ALOT of this men need to hear it.

Pena left after making a new deal and taking a leadership role. Fran has every right to say he is not a leader or great teammate...it's the truth.

Spare me Rhino.

He had a return announcement, made a deal with Fran and took the C.

He now leaves for a bag and casts doubts on his QB on the way out.

Grow up.
The “kids” make a lot of money that most people would dream of. I respect and get it, but that means they’re open to all criticism now, especially when they beg for us to donate so they get more. He was so fun to watch last year, but he turned his back on all of us, so why are we expected to cheer him on.

If Pena has a real $2M opportunity, he’d be stupid not to take it.

And he knows the roster and schedule.

I hope it’s real for his sake.
If he had one lined up, wouldn't he have announced his destination yet or leaks of visits come out yet?

I'm starting to wonder if Trebor and his family on poor counsel from an agent or advisor may have overplayed things here.

With Miami, there was instant smoke with Carson Beck and that was settled in like two days tops.

We have a situation here where again, allegedly Miami, yet nothing has popped up otherwise indicating a visit to them or confirmed transfer to them

Not saying he won't end up there, but wherever he ends up he better have it where he gets 80% upfront and the backend is the 20% or he may not get close to the supposed carrot that was dangled in front of him

I know it’s Twitter and all but my god…
Yeah Rhino, cause there arent dudes out there getting up at 400a to go drive truck and deliver product to stores, putting their bodies on the line day after day, and mentally challenging themselves to stay focused as to not kill someone with the 18 wheeler they are driving.

Oh, and they are doing it for $22 an hour with crap benefits and trying to feed a family of four. No stress there at all.

He’s saying that cause his sales pitch to kids is he will mentor them and always be part of his family.

rhino is so out of touch with reality. People get up and go to work everyday. Contractors bust their but destroying their bodies to pay the bills. Spare me the crap no one knows what it’s like to play a game. These kids are so out of touch with reality. I’m so sick and tired of these players.
