I know he's not saying that but I actually know the back and forth through some well informed sources. I'm only confirming on here since Fran has now said both numbers and let it out.

I get not being held hostage.

But we also know that in business people get offers all the time and companies choose to match them to retain key talent.

If they doubled our deal and we’re tapped out then I understand. But I don’t want to see us standing on principle over reasonable increases that we can match.

Yeah the more I learn about this situation the more I feel that Fran felt he got strong armed by some BS agent fed number. Only real thing that makes sense to me based on his reaction to the Pena situation vs Watson's. Watson had a real number, when we couldn't match he had to take that and it materialized. Fran wasn't happy about the tampering but was happy for Maraad. Pena is still out there fishing for what he can get.

I've come to the belief that Pena will be addition by subtraction. This entire situation with him just stinks. Sucks having to replace the production but at the end of the day, if he's going to pull something like this then he didn't really want to be here anyway.

Not sure about that, but at minimum it hints at a strategic response. Watson is a Frosh, and Pena has no more time on his clock. Watson may ride the pine next year ala Deuce, and want to return. Pena can't.

You don’t kick someone you’ve named a captain to the curb that easily.

That’s why I think the whole situation with Pena stunk from the get go. I don’t think class or years left had anything to do with the differing responses. I think Fran felt disrespected by the whole situation and that’s why it went so rapidly in the direction it did.

they put 5 slot receivers in the NFL in the last decade. Our last WR drafted was…who? Mike Williams? Pretty impressive.
