Trevor Cooney Videos....

I would love to see Cooney learn to attack the lane and finish a lefthand finish. When you come to play sg at syracuse a left handed finish is good to have because you will spend 80% of the time on the left side of the court.
That is something Devendorf had with his game, Dion had the pullup jumper he added to his lane attack, and Rautins had the deep pass into the post. He needs that second offensive skill to really set him apart, unless he becomes a true isolation player this year.

I love Cooney the way he is and he just loves to shoot, but its senior year a good time to get out of the comfort zone a bit. Now or never.
Gbinije and Cooney are going to be like twins this year.

I really wish he'd try to get to the rim and draw more fouls - he's a marvelous FT shooter. I think the issues are (1) he doesn't have the tightest handle / first step (either quick or sneaky, either would do) combination and (2) as a 3 point specialist he's not often in the right spot to start a short dribble drive. I do think that at this level his size / strength can ameliorate some of (1) but I'm not sure if the best and highest use of TC is in that setting. Would certainly add variety to his game, and probably make him more efficient. Just a shame that he's been forced to carry so much of the 3 point load - I think it's limited his development and left him a scapegoat for some of the issues on offense we've had over the past few years.

I'm a big supporter of Cooney, I think he goes hard for the Orange and catches a ton of undeserved flak from the fans (except maybe for when he's running the 3 on 1 break...). However, what's interesting about his Jumper is that it's not smooth, he got that little tiny reset when he brings the ball above his head, not quite a hitch but a definite quick pause. It looks mechanical. His knees almost knock together when he gathers too, it's definitely unorthodox. Not typical things seen with a strong outside shooter. Just a few quick observations.

I knew when I saw the title of this thread where it would ultimately end up...so...in that spirit..let me add my little contribution..

Most of those pump fakes would be called walks in a game.

Not sure how picking up a cone while dribbling is going to come in handy during a game. I guess if a kid drops his ice cream on the court right where you are dribbling, it may be invaluable.

He's like, older than the trainer..or at least looks older.

So you guys have never seen chairs or cones used in 1-1 training?

I'm going to throw in an observation here as well. Anyone else notice his stride length seems really short when he was running the sprints at the end? That looked very odd to me. Wonder why that is, or if he was doing it on purpose.

Dont forget the brooms in preparation for our zone. Of course i get that they are used. this is not to be taken seriously.

Hahaha. Perhaps Gbinije could have used the practice when he lost his shoe in the Drayton game a few years ago

You can criticize his shot, handle, and drive to the hoop, if you choose. Don't ever dare question this kids Heart, Effort and Hustle. That's good enough for me. He doesn't deserve the $#!% he gets.

This!
If you don't think this is a big reason for JB's appreciation of Trevor, then you've never played many sports.

I think we see special things from all three - Trevor, Mike and Kaleb. We might border a tourney team, but I think the guards get it done and get us in. They should all be hungry enough by now. Just need to lock down the 5.

Any other player and the chairs and cones (standard training props) wouldn't have been mentioned and only the fact the player was busting his butt.

I think we should post a back ground of a barn on this video. I kid I kid. Of course he is charley hustle just hope he can drain a few this year when it counts

Just out of curiosity, who pays for all these training sessions? I'm curious if this is something SU provides to him or if his parents foot the bill. Of course with him going to school for free, they likely can afford this additional training easily...

I could be wrong but don't think SU is allowed to foot the bill.

I think its out of his own pocket. With the NCAA who knows? Just being alive on certain days of the week could be a violation. Picking your nose could be a violation, but then Jim has been doing that for almost 40 years.

A couple of new videos on Cooney...

His training is as energetic as the music.

Not very impressed. It's a video cut to the makes. It was not at "game energy."

Went to the downtown YMCA yesterday and I saw kid's practicing dribbling and shooting around cones, and I thought to myself that cones are used for training in tons of sports. Soccer, Basketball, and football are all examples where cones are used to simulate cutting. The next analysis I expect to see about Cooney is how he gets out of bed in the morning. Maybe he gets up on the left side of the bed and not the right.
