Trey Fairchild

You are all very kind. He will give his best and see how it shakes out. Thank you !!
It's been an honor to have you and Trey be part of this community. You've both done well to survive and thrive during a tumultuous time of life. We're all hoping the best for Trey and expect good things from and for him. Please let him know there are many of us that are pulling for him. All that good karma can't hurt.

Jerry good or bad regardless with Trey and playing professionally...you and your family will always be invited to join us at a home game or an away game in the ACC. Just let us know. We should have a roadie at Pitt in '14.

It looks like Trey will be playing in Germany in 2014 for the Saarland Hurricanes in the 1st Division of GFL. He is pretty excited about it. Injuries so far have healed and he will get to play some professional football. It certainly is not the NFL or even CFL, but it is pretty good football in a league considered the best in Europe and (although certainly not on the same scale) the 3rd best pro league in the world. He will also get to coach (he loves that, coached 7th grade this past fall) with their youth team.

There are no JH, HS or college teams. You basically play from flag all the way up for the team in your city, if they have one. They pay for all your expenses with a salary. I believe Andrew Robinson played in Spain after leaving SU.

I hope you all had a Christmas, this was great for our family. What an amazing experience this will be. God Bless and GO ORANGE !

That is too cool ... I"m really happy for Trey! Now I have another reason to go to Germany :)

Expenses paid and living in Germany? Sign me up! Playing football and getting paid to do so as well?! What an awesome opportunity! I hope it works out well for Trey and family. Great news!!! Does Trey sprechen sie Deutsche?

What months does the season run? I was unaware they had an american football league and will now have to do some research.

That's awesome Jerry. Great read and clear you guys have it in perspective. Pro Football, live in Europe, experience another culture...all awesome.

As everyone always says on these threads, thanks for keeping us posted on Trey. We appreciate the updates. Good kid good family.

Bit of quick research result. The GFL season appears to kick off in early May and end with the German Bowl in mid October. There is an 8 team North and 8 team South division. Treys team finished 5th in the Southern league last season. GFL team nicknames put the NFL to shame. Some of my personal favorites are the Unicorns, Mercinaries, Scorpions, and Phantoms all of whom reside in the South division.

Saarland appears to be Eastern Germany just over the border from France and a stones throw away from Luxembourg as well as the Black Forest area where I've always wanted to visit.

They got a new coach and he wants to score points is what he said. Got a solid RB from Northern Arizona too. Trey will do all the returns and play some safety too possibly. He's excited.

How big are the rosters? Pro football with guys playing offense, defense and specials is fantastic. I bet it knocks a lot of trash talk out from defenders if they line up on offense and can actually get hit themselves.

Jerry...he is going to be playing in a gorgeous area of Germany. I really recommend he start learning German. It can only but help him...after Football it might even help him get a job. BTW, if he runs into any German D-1 caliber players have him contact the staff...Coach Shafer likes hardnosed Krauts like himself.

That is what we are hearing too !! It is exciting, got the playbook today and he's excited. Thank you guys for the support. We will always be Orange. He considers leaving a big regret regardless of the family reasons he came home.

Although only one year, he still is proud of the time he spent there.

At the very least he should be able to find us a kicker in Germany.

We still consider Trey and your family, Orange members! Good luck to Trey!

my father was in the 82nd. airborne paragliders in Bamberg, Germany guarding the war criminals right after WWII. The stories he told were priceless.

But after he died this year I finally understood why he would never fly again.

Good luck to trey and there is tons of History to learn over there.

Best of luck to Trey...I hope he has a great time over there. You guys are always welcomed to our tailgates. I'll contact you if I end up going to the Pitt game to see if you want to joins us this Fall.
