It's very hard given what the last 5-6 years have been
I'm going with 20-11 and will be a bubble team but make the NCAA tourney
2 biggest issues with this team 1.) Outside shooting will be as bad as last year 2.) Depth at Center

This team looks to have many potential secondary 3-point threats. If that proves to be the case, this season will be a lot of fun to watch.I don't think you need to worry about #1. We have a LOT more options for shooters than last year.
I'll be surprised if we don't shoot the ball better collectively as a team, which will in turn lead to better floor spacing, which will in turn require defenses to play us more honestly, which will in turn open the lane up a bit for Joseph to penetrate, which will in turn create some open looks...

I can understand the natural skepticism / wait and see attitudes being expressed. But I still don't think expectations should be "lower." This team might struggle early more than any recent teams, but that doesn't mean that they won't be better by the postseason.
My expectations aren't lower at all--I expect this team to be very good before its all said and done. How good? Stay tuned. Maybe the pieces of the puzzle won't fit as well together as I expect. Maybe we'll have an injury. Or maybe they're just too darn young.
But alternatively, they have a lot of talent. They have a lot of size. They have better depth than last year [except at C]. They have better shooting than last year. It really looks like it could be a fun year!
What's the difference between "wait and see" and "How good? Stay tuned."?
Fair, Ennis, Grant and Baye were good players. The team was flawed (no scoring, especially inside scoring).
Simple--the difference is going in with lowered expectations based upon what happened last year, per your note above, versus having high expectations based upon the potential of a lot of new faces. "Stay tuned" was about not knowing how things will turn out, and which mind set proves to be the correct prediction.

How anyone could have lived through the last 10 games of last season and then have difficulty restraining their optimism about this season is a testimony to the positive psychology of sports fans everywhere.
I'd take 20 and 11 and a tourney berth right now without a question. I haven't watched either exhibition game, but I doubt that you can learn much from them given the caliber of the opposition.
We'll know what we have after about 10 games. It took 26 games last year.
I'd rather be surprised than disappointed.
for sure, because the non-con schedule is built for a high SOS: potentially 3 top 25 teams before Christmas, none of them at home. This is a new era for cuse hoops. There's no more bubble talk. There's no more rebuilding talk. It's called reloading. We'll be a top 4 seed come tourney time, it's just what we do.
Bubble my ass!!
