Another NCAA Compliance Issue Involving Social Media (PS; Mink)
For at least the third time in this academic year, Syracuse is facing NCAA compliance issues related to social media.
The latest came this weekend when a local electronics repair shop posted a photo of two football players on its Facebook page.
The photo, which has since been removed, features quarterback Terrel Hunt and defensive lineman Marcus Coleman posing for a photograph after one of the players had his phone repaired.
Under NCAA rules, the use of a player's name or picture "to advertise, recommend
or promote directly the sale or use of a commercial product or service of any kind" is prohibited — even if the player does not grant permission or have knowledge of the photo.

The former Syracuse standout last played in the NFL in 2011 as a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he played his first five seasons.
Jackson missed four games during the 2009 season while serving an NFL-mandated suspension. In Sept. 2010, he was suspended indefinitely for violating the league's substance-abuse policy.
