SU Recruit Tyler Lydon, USA Basketball Advance to Finals of FIBA Americas Tourney (PS; Waters)

The USA Basketball Under-18 National team throttled the Dominican Republic, 90-56, in the semifinals of the FIBA Americas championship in Colorado Springs, Colo., on Monday night.

The win puts the United States in Tuesday's championship game against Canada. The game will start at 7:30 p.m. Eastern.

Syracuse recruit Tyler Lydon didn't score in the United States' win over the Dominican Republic, but the 6-foot-9 forward did pull down six rebounds and blocked two shots in 13 minutes of playing time. He missed his only field goal attempt of the game.

The United States is 4-0 in the FIBA Americas tournament. Monday's game marked the first time that the Americans failed to score 100 points in the tournament.

What Will SU's 2014-15 Team Look Like? JB's Take: (PS; Ditota)

Jim Boeheim has witnessed the denuding of his roster in other seasons dedicated to restocking a program that perpetually finds ways to win.

His 2014-15 reclamation project includes the replacement of his starting point guard, both starting forwards and a gritty backup center.

"We lost a lot, but we've lost a lot before. That's really not relevant," the Syracuse basketball coach said in a recent conversation. "The only thing that's relevant is how these guys can play. And nobody knows the answer to that."

It starts, Boeheim says, with returning experience. Rakeem Christmas will anchor the Orange from his center spot. He will be asked, said his coach, to shoulder more of a scoring burden, to increase his contributions on a team that returns 37.4 percent of its scoring and 34.6 percent of its rebounding.

"He just needs to keep making progress," Boeheim said. "He needs to realize he's going to have to do more offensively. We can't live with him getting 5 or 6 points. We have to get more production out of him. That's important."

Where Will SU Players Go in Thursday's NBA Draft? (PS; Waters)

Which NBA teams will draft Tyler Ennis, Jerami Grant and C.J. Fair at the NBA draft on Thursday night?

It's a question that no one seemingly has an answer to.

The three former Syracuse University players are all over the various NBA mock draft websites.
Ennis, a 6-foot-2 guard, is projected to go anywhere from No. 11 to Denver to No. 22 to Memphis. When he decided to enter the NBA draft, Ennis was considered a lock to go in the lottery (top 14 picks). Now he appears to be slipping, according to the mocks.

Grant, a 6-8 forward, is considered a likely first-round pick, but it's not a unanimous opinion. Grant is seen going as high as No. 18 to Phoenix, while several mocks have moved him into the second round.

Older Brothers of TE and JG Proud, Not Jealous (PS; Waters)

On Thursday night, Tyler Ennis will walk across the stage at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn to shake NBA commissioner Adam Silver's hand after he is selected in the NBA draft.

Dylan Ennis, Tyler's older brother, will be watching from a table in the Green Room.

And while Tyler Ennis will be in the NBA next season after spending just one year at Syracuse University and Dylan Ennis will return for his junior year at Villanova University, Dylan isn't about to concede anything in the battle between him and his younger brother.

"I still tell him, 'You're still not going to beat me,''' Dylan said in a recent telephone interview. " I tell him I was better when I was younger and I'm still better than him now.''

NBA Draft Odds Says Over/Under on TE's Draft Position is 18.5 (PS; Poliquin)

After visiting sizzling South Carolina for a week, it's back to work here on syracuse.com. And that means daily offerings by me, and any and all feedback that might be generated by you.

So, let's get together tomorrow morning (Tuesday) for a bit of a chat, shall we?

I'll be here between 9-10 a.m. and we can kick around any thoughts you might have on Carmelo Anthony opting out with the New York Knicks or the ongoing controversy surrounding the Washington Redskins' nickname or the Syracuse Chiefs' remarkable season to date or Thursday's NBA Draft or the World Cup or … whatever.

How Can the ACC Get More Teams into the NCAA Tournament? Hint: a 20 game schedule is not the answer (PS; Stevens)

Notre Dame coach Mike Brey floated the idea of a 20-game ACC schedule last week in an interview with SI.com as a means to increase the number of conference teams earning NCAA tournament bids — this in the wake of the new and improved ACC barely squeaking six teams into the 68-team field in March.

Brey warrants credit for at least constructing ideas that have the potential to be useful. It's a whole lot better than clucking about how the conference has to promote itself better. This isn't the 1980s, and the brand-name of a conference doesn't matter. The numbers the selection committee scours do. It's really that simple.

But while a 20-game conference schedule sounds fine, it ignores the manner many coaches would react to a larger league slate plus an exempt tournament plus an ACC/Big Ten Challenge game. Oddly enough in a results-based business with fairly limited job security the norm, many coaches get skittish when their win totals (well-earned of merely inflated) are threatened. Imagine that. Those two extra ACC games would come at a cost: Good nonconference games.

Catching Up on ACC News (starnewsonline.com; Friedlander)

...
Moving on to basketball, four ACC players have been invited by the NBA to be in the New York for Thursday’s draft.

Duke’s Jabari Parker, who could now be the first overall pick with the injury problems plaguing Kansas big man Joel Embiid, will be joined in the green room by Blue Devils teammate Rodney Hood, N.C. State’s T.J. Warren and Syracuse’s Tyler Ennis.

Here’s hoping none of them have to wait too long to hear their name called.

As for the players just getting ready to star their college careers, three future ACC stars are making names for themselves for Team USA at the FIBA Americas U18 Championship tournament in Colorado Springs.

Duke signee Justise Winslow is averaging 10.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.3 steals through four games while leading his team to the tourney final. Soon-to-be Blue Devil teammate Tyus Jones has shown his potential as a playmaking point guard by averaging 6.8 assists and 1.5 turnovers, to go along with 8.2 points per game.

The other incoming ACC player, Syracuse’s Tyler Lydon, is averaging 6.5 points and 8.2 rebounds per game.

NC State Unveils New Court Design (fayobserver.com; Strelow)

N.C. State on Monday unveiled the new design for the basketball courts inside PNC Arena and the school's on-campus practice facility.

The design features a large wolf head - otherwise known as the "Tuffy" logo - at midcourt, the new ACC logo inside the free-throw lines and shaded wood, with the areas inside the 3-point arcs but outside the lanes a different shade than the rest of the floor.

Last season, the lane was painted red and the midcourt logo was the larger 'S' with an 'N' and a 'C' in the middle.

Trade Rumors Swirl Around Dion Waiters and MCW (PS; Waters)

Carmelo Anthony, who decided to opt out of the last year of his contract with the New York Knicks, might not be the only former Syracuse University star on the move in the NBA.

With the NBA draft coming up on Thursday, this is a time for rumors around the league. Often the rumors never come to fruition, but the chatter remains intriguing.

In recent days, there has been a lot of buzz surrounding two former Syracuse players — Michael Carter-Williams of the Philadelphia 76ers and Dion Waiters of the Cleveland Cavaliers.

According to several news outlets, the 76ers have been talking to the Los Angeles Lakers regarding a trade that would include Carter-Williams and the Lakers' No. 7 pick in the first round of Thursday's draft. Philadelphia owns the No. 3 and No. 10 picks in the draft and could be looking at Dante Exum.

I approve of the design, provided they tint the 4 Block S's a nice shade of orange!
