Tweet from Hunt

His previous incident, which cost him an entire spring and no doubt hampered his development - especially painful since it turns out we needed him sooner than later - should have been that call.

Different scenarios IMO. One was a stupid decision and the other was a "in the heat of the moment" decision. I've done a lot of stupid things in my life and somehow continue to do them on occasion. Just because he made one mistake doesn't mean he instantly won't make more during his life.

There was a whole thread where people wanted him suspended for another game because "we are Syracuse and should hold him to a higher standard". Thread with some of the rants are below...from our own "fans.

http://syracusefan.com/threads/what-should-hunts-punishment-be.79354/

"He committed Battery"
He needs to do community hours
He needs to apologize to the opposing team and players for his actions
He need to write an apology letter to the opposing team and player he hit

Suspend him for the first series against CMU
Suspend him for the whole game against CMU
etc., etc.

So basically you've taken one thread started by the same poster, and reiterated off the wall stuff posted by that one poster (the bolded items) as if it's coming from some significant number of fans.

There were people (myself included, and I still feel that way) that felt he should be suspended for additional time (series, quarters, games, etc) because it was discipline coming from the STAFF and not from referees. But there's a big difference between him missing game time for doing something not in line with the program's expectations of its players (which is common at pretty much every single Football school out there) and your bolded items above which were plucked from a series of posts by one poster. One person brought up the concept of battery, not FANS plural.

But nice try. Love the effort.

Hey @Cuse fans, sorry I let us all down vs. Nova. Thankful my teammates took care of business. Talked to @Coach_Shafer. Good to go at CMU.

I think it shows maturity for him to post the mea culpa, hopefully he's learned from it and it won't happen again. We can't afford for it to happen again.

If the staff feels they've disciplined him properly for it, then so be it. I don't agree with it but it's time to move on and move forward.

Good post OPHK - especially the bolded part above.

Although I have not seen it mentioned specifically, I wonder if Hunt's previous shoplifting incident at Carousel fueled some of the emotional reactions from the fans? Gaining maturity is nearly a life long process for many of us. And few of us have had to do it in a fish bowl.

Like you said, time to move on and hope it has made Hunt a stronger leader.

what is that about? It's the first I've heard of Hunt shoplifting at Carousel, I remember Michael Carter Williams getting nabbed but not Hunt.

I don't think [to CIL's point above] that it has anything to do with the current reaction, but two years ago Hunt was caught shoplifting cologne at Carousel during the offseason. Marrone suspended Hunt from spring practice. He was allowed to return to the team in the fall of 2012, but lost out on the benefit of whatever development he might have gotten that spring.

By all accounts, Hunt is a good kid and a good student. The shoplifting incident seems like an anamoly.

ahh, I don't remember that incident but then again it seems like an eternity ago when Marrone was coaching the team too. Thanks

I can't begin to imagine what it was like being in Hunt's shoes. I don't like the shoplifting thing or the punch but if that is all the bad reaction he has then he is a far better man than I.

Go Hunt
Go Cuse
Go Orange
Go Blue
Go Coppertone
Go Whatever

You do know that you are basically agreeing with what that threads OP wanted right? You are also I am assuming aware that there was more than this one thread where it was discussed that he should be punished more harshly and other punishments discussed?

I didn't say they all came from that thread, did I ? I thought I said "some".

Good posts above. Hunt will move on and this experience will help him grow most importantly as a man. I think most, me included, were just bummed at how everything was pretty much a debacle vs Villanova. The team wasn't ready to play. Yet we won. We were LUCKY to win. No question about that. You always like to see how a team responds. Players and coaches. Can't wait for CMU! LGO!

I was one of those that started a thread on the matter. I'm still of the opinion that he should sit for the first quarter of the CMU game. That's how it would be if it were my program.

I could also see just holding him out for the first series. Anything to reinforce that punching is not acceptable on SU's team.

That said, it's not my program and I'll accept HCSS' decision.

Go Orange!

I think sitting out the second half against Nova sent home a message.

Time to move on.

A message from the referees/rules, not from the coach.

Time to move on.
Yup.

Beat the Chippewas!
