Two Recruits Changed Everything in the Northeast

The decision of two recruits who chose UConn over us changed the trajectory of EVERYTHING, and largely contributed to the position we’re in right now and where UConn is. Those two recruits are Donovan Clingan and Andre Jackson. If we get those two (who we were on the cusp of getting, thanks Gerry), UConn doesn’t have back-to-backs and instead of UConn we were likely in NC or Final Four contention during their college playing days. Danny Hurley really demolished us along with Daddy Ball. Those two and the NC’s that came with them have made UConn a perennial power and us a doormat. Doesn’t help that Hurley replaces Jackson w Castle lmao . We need a massive overhaul.

I’m aware. I think Hurley and their staff did a tremendous job with them, but they aren’t who they are today without them. They changed everything. They owe a lot to those two recruits in making that program what it is and making sure we are in the trash where we are.

Sounds like he really despised Syracuse, and the staff felt they had zero chance. It must have just been all about Call of Duty.

Every recruit talks nice about every school in those articles. His mother died and he was staying close to home. It was discussed amongst everyone heavily at the time. Revisionist History

Coaching staffs don’t waste their time until the very end when they are aware they don’t have a chance with a recruit. Who would do that? Revisionist history and Monday morning qb’ing makes it easy to say “we never had a chance” just because of his proximity to Storrs. You have no basis to make that assumption or jump when all evidence indicates the staff thought they had a real chance at landing him, especially since Syracuse was his first high major offer and they were in constant contact w him. His intent to go to UConn is your entire argument and not mine anyways. If Syracuse somehow lands him we are looking at two completely different programs from where they are right now. Understand my post before you try to randomly pick it apart.

Jackson's family lives about halfway between Syracuse and Storrs.

When UConn left the AAC for the BE, it put almost all of UConn's road games within driving distance for his family to watch.

Also didn't hurt that Hurley offered Andre's little brother a scholarship sight unseen.

Weird how all Cuse fans hearts were broken on his decision day. Another recruit our Monday morning QB fans should have alerted our staff about to let them know they’re wasting time and resources on

Yeah, I don't know what anyone has seen in our program that shows we would have gotten the best out of these guys. Our development has been almost non existent.

don't forget rudy gay. for me pretty much the tipping point when uconn overtook us in recruiting .

He was a very solid player and an excellent shooter.
He shouldn't have played as much as he did, but he won a bunch of games for us in his last couple years.

UConn with a coach who was actually engaged and cared more about the team than his tee time vs Syracuse, a program that has been living on fumes for 10+ years. I don't think Gerry was great in his time here, but to blame him for losing top recruits is comical.

lol Gerry was a terrible recruiter and everybody who has half a brain that followed his ability to recruit here knows this. These two recruits are just a couple examples of that. You should do some catching up Freud, you’re way behind.

I'm gonna beg to disagree with this thread on this, but Andre Jackson was not the guy SU needed. His
value was being an athlete running all over the court either causing havoc on D or in transition on O,
and that was not going to play for the Orange during those years. He'd have been the only one on the
team doing it. A new version of Paul Harris, lots of basketball talent, but out of place at SU.

Newhouser dead on for getting it right with Buddy changing everything, and there is a reality
someplace that had this in 21-22 for the Orange:

PG - Kadary, SG - Buddy, C - Jesse, - Swider, - Guerrier, and a bench of Benny, Girard, Jimmy Jr, and
maybe Symir. That team does a helluva lot better than 16-17. JB retires after that, and Orange life is
better.

The PG who should've been starting on that team was the recruit more needed than Jackson. If you're
going to say that he needed to go and Jackson was the one who the Orange needed, where was he
gonna play? He wasn't a PG, and was equally as bad of a 3 pt shooter. Great athlete/defensive pest who
does not at all fit into a lineup that's built around a PASSIVE 2-3 zone with Buddy and Joe as a backcourt,
and then with Swider and Jimmy in the frontcourt.

The buck stops with the old man who didn't want to retire. If Gerry was a bad recruiter, then someone else should have been in charge of that recruitment. JB had final authority and should have had a better staff when the wheels were falling off.
