I was torturing myself reading some .Com comments, and this was the first beauty I saw. Perfect example of the irrational thinking of the Syracuse Football fan right here

A noon game, watching on ESPN at home sounds way more better than paying to park, paying for expensive concessions, standing in the cold tailgating, and dealing with the raucus crowds.

And how does having a week to plan for tailgating screw it up? You can still get all the stuff and be ready for whatever time they say. Even folks coming in from out of town - the time of the game doesn't matter - except unless they put it on primetime and you have to get a room at a hotel for an extra night.

Best case scenario is check out of hotel in morning and attend a noon game and then take a flight home. Even better, sitting at home watching game on TV with friends

What? Are you a tailgater or something? Noon is the perfect time for a football game. With the game over by 3 or 3:30 that leaves the rest of Saturday afternoon to do something good or watch another game or two.

I can't stand prime-time games, and games starting after 1pm just blow chunks. The earlier the game the better so there's time to do stuff after the game.

I'd like to see SU-Clemson at noon and then GT - Miami at 4 and then FSU-Maryland at 8pm.

How many do you think Clemson will be favored by? Two touchdowns?

Shocked someone on syr.com can string more than five words together.

I love how people use "expensive concessions" as an excuse not to go to a game. Yes it's expensive, but you can eat before you leave for the game so you won't buy food while you're there. People just need to think of dumb reasons not to go be social and supportive.

Just absurd really, like I said the University does not owe these people concierge service or a top 25 program, support it or not but a lot of the people in Syracuse are nieve to Syracuse's spot in the modern era of college football, or they are just dumb or just fat and lazy. Or all of the above.

I have no issue with people doing other things than attending the games but for people to sit and watch on TV for spite or the fact that they are just too lazy well so be it. Their choice. It's the fans that WONT go to games that piss me off, not the people who don't care or would rather go to Carousel mall with the rest of the element of Syracuse

Exactly right about the modern fan being naive about how things really work. And mind you the person in OP isn't talking about Tulane or Wagner, they are talking about Clemson

Most people around here just don't care about SU football. Does it suck? Yeah, it does. but it's just reality.

The comment I pasted was from someone who I assume cares since he watches the games, and sounds like would otherwise attend if the game wasn't at noon. In fact he says he will watch with friends, so you have to assume there is a group of people who actually do care, just don't attend. I'm willing to bet television ratings are rather high. Personally I would say almost all of the people I know watch the games on television, but only a small percentage chose to attend games. Speaking for my family alone I know everyone watches.

True.

And let's be real. Can you fault people for enjoying games on their 50 inch plasma in their living room instead of at the Dome? Could you imagine what attendance would be like if we had an outdoor stadium? We wouldn't have had 15k for Tulane.

I definitely agree, and that seems to be the problem. If we want people to attend we have to figure out a way to drag them away from those plasma tvs. Other schools big draw if just an unreal tailgating experience so it's basically a huge party. While we do have tailgating, it's not centralized and to the extent other schools can offer. But that's getting into a whole other topic, I just thought the original comment was the perfect example of what exactly were up against attendance wise.
