UCLA fires Jim Mora / hires Chip Kelly

I know - Coach Babers was an assistant in Westwood a few years ago.

This is a bad decision by UCLA in my opinion.

Jim Mora had some real success his first four years.

While it is true that the Bruins have some trouble the past two years, there is no reason to make this change - instead, the Program needs some stability.

UCLA had success while USC was hit with sanctions.
As soon as USC’s sanctions ended they rose above UCLA.
UCLA is a top 25 job they will get a good coach.

If Babers had more success he would be a possibility but I don’t see him getting a call.

I'm not sure it's true that UCLA is a top 25 program.

There are some fundamental problems there.

As you noted, one is USC.

But there is also the problem of having to play in Pasadena - way off campus.

And there have been infrastructure issues as well - I seem to recall an SI piece on that particular problem.

The coaches come and go - four or five over the past number of years - but the record, by and large, has been pretty much the same.

My feeling is that Mora is the kind of coach you keep and allow to develop some much needed continuity.

Florida or California athletes...Chip has among the best HS players in his back yard either way.

Im hoping UCLA with Frost to Florida, Norville to Tennessee Iowa State guy to A&M

Football? Shouldn't it be called pass and catch ball or sumthin? Tsss.

If I'm Chip, it's not even close - Florida.

I just think the talent pool and the commitment to the football program are both too strong to turn down.
Florida fans are terrible.
UCLA fans are laid back.

Florida fans exceptations after one bad year pushed Urban Meyer into retirement.
McEwlain won SEC East the last 2 years and got run out after one bad year.

No elite coach should touch the Florida job. That fanbase is underrated as terrible.

Chip would get a longer leash in UCLA.

I think Chip Kelly could have a dominant team again at either location in short order. But, I think Florida presents the shortest path and highest ceiling.

I think Kelly goes with UCLA because of his previous access to recruits on the West Coast. It's more difficult to start from scratch like he'd have to do in Florida. Stereotype alert! West Coast QBs are better than the ones in Florida.

He would. Can't argue that.

Over/under on how many years before either UCLA or Florida gets put on probation and Kelly bolts like he did at Oregon.

I wonder if we're gonna start seeing coaches pass over SEC jobs because of the culture. If you can't beat Saban, and who can consistently, you'll be fired. It's just a matter of when. There's enough money to be had at a number of other jobs that it may be worth it to go somewhere else.

If the administration is willing to give him the tools, he should go to UCLA. He'll be able to recruit wherever he goes. Tell the Florida kids they can have florida weather without the humidity and have them visit in July.

They are not UCLA basketball or USC football. They should’ve been thrilled with Mora.

Chip Kelly doesn't have Mike Bellotti to set up the foundation. He has to destroy and rebuild what was previously built.

Totally agree with you on Florida.

I bet he partially factors in familiarity with the conference in general and looking across at USC, far less competitive than going against Jimbo Fisher and Mark Richt for top local talent.

Chip will win at UCLA. Pac 12 isn't the SEC and he can turn them around within a couple years. This is a good spot for him and he will do well at UCLA
