Uconn game opens 9.5

You might want to do some research, your "eye" isn't worth much.
I'll help go look up Kent St, Oklahoma St, Tulsa, Texas Tech, Purdue, Wake Forest, USF...

We are currently ranked 78th, not sure how that's one of the WORST in the country...
FYI this is not 1982 when there was only 78 teams in D1.

I put him on ignore a long long time ago

I don't think anybody knows if UConn's D is good or bad. They brought in a ton of transfers and why would the UConn DC show anything against a weak FCS school in week 1?

Their Dline struggled against Central Connecticut despite the score. Zero sacks and almost no pressure. It's essentially the biggest worry on their board. Doesn't mean they won't have some success and our throw some wrinkles at us but it seems unlikely there gonna be able to get as much pressure as Tenn was.

as does every defensive coordinator who has ever lived
Yeah I mean it’s pretty clear to see when you have a good coordinator or a bad one. He’s 14 games in and his defense has been horrible. He lost a bunch of good players and we expect it to be better this year? he’s not doing a very good job and I see zero evidence of why it would get better. Time to cut bait or hire someone that can help EROB learn on the job like Coach P. He’s a train wreck right now though and Fran is allowing it to happen or even worse coaching it himself

You think it’s a kitchen sink game for the UCONN d?

Again, regarding UConn last year, we were looking ahead to Miami and coming off the Cal game. It had all the makings of a trap game. We were never losing though (just as Tenny was never losing to us even if we cut it to 10 in the 4th).

I was expecting Cuse -10.5 when the lines came out. Maybe I'm seeing too much of last year in this year's team, I dunno.

Nearly identical to last year. Vegas still thinks we're decent.
I watched a decent amount of football saturday and sunday. I don't think we looked terrible. I think UT was 19 points better because they're just better. They're coming off a playoff, they've been building that program up for 6 years and they're ahead of, and they seem underrated. Definitely more of a top 15 than fringe 25.

I think so too. However, there will be teams that get to Aguilar. He misfired on at least 5 passes that were not difficult. If a team can get pressure on him, he will turn the ball over. I think Tennessee is a 10-2 team. They have Georgia at home in a few weeks. They play at Florida and Alabama...if they can win one of those and beat Oklahoma home...not seeing any other losses. No South Carolina, Ole Miss, LSU, Texas, Missouri on the schedule. That is VERY favorable. If they beat Georgia, we might be seeing a Tee Martin scenario where they run the table...

I don’t love the way the line is trending…

I'd point out lines are just what it takes to even out the bets, they're not some magic predictor of an outcome.

I've long been suspicious that since NYers can't easily bet on NY teams, and the lion's share of Syracuse fans are in NY, there's unnatural pressure on the line. I'm just not sure what direction that pressure is in on any given game or else I'd find a way to capitalize on it lol.

Which is exactly why i don't understand the conservative bend and don't break play calling in this game. If we would have actually ran some aggressive pressure schemes, Aguilar would have overthrown some receivers for some INT's. Aguilar is known for throwing pics. Why let them methodically move the ball down the field. Sure we will get beat here and there when they don't get home, but we were eventually giving up points moist of the time anyway. Make some big plays on D and get some turnovers and stops for a shorter field. EROB's 4 and 3 man front defense seems to require the front four or three to get pressure. When you know you aren't going to against an SEC line, you have to have to throw in more pressure packages.

It is very hard to get pressure on him because they are a great running team and we are not good against the run. They use the run to set up the pass. And then the passes were rarely long-developing passes. They really came out using play action to get his confidence going (even with incomplete passes). They called a great game, especially in the 1st quarter. Well coached team. Unfortunately, UConn is too.

All of this. I know it's hindsight but we basically would've needed NFL talent to make all the cushions work.

Defense is a chess match and we were scared so we played checkers.
