With a program like Syracuse, where you don’t get the top recruits and biggest and fastest guys on D, you have to run an aggressive, blitzing defense like Shafer and Tony White used to run. Yes you’ll be burned at times, but you have to apply pressure on the opposition. In the end, if you scheme well, you’ll be much better off than the passive crap we’re seeing with ERob’s scheme. At TA&M, his teams had the athletes to play great D. Here we have to rely more on a scheming, aggressive D, with lots of surprises, to keep the other team off balance. Eventually we might have the athletes to compete but not now.

What if instead we just played the corners fifty yards off the receivers?

At some point, Fran has to kick the field goal until the offense can CONSISTENTLY show they can get 2-3 yards when they have to. They’re establishing nothing to this point.

So one weakness of the Nixon offense, and I'm not sure why this is, is it doesn't seem to have explosive play potential that eats up yardage on the field.

Having his son as the 2nd running back means you don't have any back who is a threat to take it to the house.
We did alright last year as an offense without him because of his injury. We really need someone who is a threat to break a long run as our backup back.

I've been worried about the WR's for awhile. No guarantee that anyone was going to step up in the amount needed this year. Or be able to step up. The WR group felt like how most people summarized most of the Babers teams before the season ---- lots of potential...

The short passing offense we're trying to run depends on WRs getting YAC to be explosive. Good point.

Their D may be small but they play smart. They are anticipating the short passes, which disrupts everything.

Yeah, I think a lot of SU fans are "whistling past the graveyard" abiut the fact that Mora is a better coach than Fran. At least at this point in their careers.
