UConn postgame

In pass protection you really should be blocking your space and not a man. I have seen our C and Gs the last two games leave their space to double a guy. It makes no sense. Helping a bit is fine but abandoning your area is a whole different thing.
They need to fix that, but the answer isn't to block nobody for the whole play.

Considering this happened in back to back weeks, I assume this will be addressed going forward. You know other DC's have seen it and will be trying it.
It was Collins vs UT vacating the A gap to dbl. Killed them in the first Q

Random thing from yesterday that frustrated me was our final possession of the first half. We had one timeout left and completed a pass deep in UConn territory for a first down. There were 20 seconds left. We should have spiked it immediately but we let it run down to 13 seconds while we figured out our play. I thought that was a disappointing lack of awareness that may have cost us one more shot at the end zone.

… which was compounded by us stooopidly having to burn TWO TO’s on (what should be) routine ST plays, earlier in the half.

One TO? Ok, stuff happens.
Two TO’s? That’s not DART, at all.

Agreed 144% - shoulda spiked it quickly to stop the clock.
You’d still have 2 shots at the end zone, plus the TO to use if needed.

What we did wasn’t quite Dino-level bad clock management,
but it wasn’t far off either.

I just want to get this on the record...

1) I have no problem with the "sprints". But let's be clear: that was Fran playing to the outside world more than the team itself. He's a very media savvy guy and he knows what that does for the program's reputation. If it was totally about the players then he wouldn't have let them lollygag their way through it.

2) The player's only meeting at halftime is cool. The offense still played like hot garbage for another 1 2/3rds quarters after that. So let's not pretend that a campfire talk is what improved their play.

The staff and the program need to be much better if they want to squeak their way to bowl eligibility this season. PR stunts and speeches aren't going to accomplish that.
Don’t think point 1 is correct. Fran warned them before the game and he was just following through.

You shouldn't NEED to spike it there but these teams nowadays end up shifting players or running motion which runs 5 secs off the clock. You see it across the nation. So yes, next time we should spike the ball.

Not if the opponent is UCon. Could they beat Clemson? What makes anyone think we will have a winning season ? I am deflated by this win.

Sounds like you need some Enzyte.

Would you have been inflated by us taking the L?

I mean, if that’s your thing.
You do you.
Not gonna kink-shame.

ok so flip it. you'd be cool if it happened to us ? like there wouldn't be 100 posts about disrespect ?
For all UCONN knew, one of our guys might have told Fran to stick it during the game and that's why they were running. Everyone is making too much of this. His program. His rules.

Lots for us to improve on, lots to be worried about. But imagine for a second being a UConn fan right now. Up 17-6 on the road in the 4th quarter against a rival as a TD underdog, against a completely inept offense and a QB who can't get anything going, whose fans are begging for him to be pulled.

They have to be absolutely gutted. I can't imagine much more gross of a way to lose.
I can never imagine being a UConn fan.

Huge pet peeve of mine that I saw all game. Here’s the example. Willis gets the ball on a 3rd and short. Runs left off tackle I believe. Gets stood up about a yard before the 1st down. He tried to keep pushing and eventually the UConn LB’s and/or DB’s come running up and all lay a shot on him completely stopping the play. Not one SU player came up trying to help push him forward. Everyone just stood around watching. Saw this numerous times on runs and passes. There was another passing play after that, maybe the next series a WR caught the ball and 2 SU players around him just stood there watching him try to fight his way forward for more yards.

I graduated in 1989. I remember playing lacrosse in gym class as well. Coach Messere would use that to see if there were any hidden gems. Definitely not me.
Graduated in ‘81 and I can say with certainty, Coach messere had a significant influence in my life too, in every way, literally since 1980, and there’s a pic that I cannot friggin link with me and a friend carrying him off the field after his first state championship.

He was a big factor with my HOF induction as well and there’s a picture somewhere floating around of him and me that night which was a profound full circle moment for many of us inducted that night, not just me, being able to hang with him, the guy that contributed to many of us getting there that night to begin with.

Guys a legend.
