UK fans talk SU

Nothing id like more to beat their ass in the title game...most arrogant fan base in all of sports.

All I could think of after reading those responses...

I read that thread earlier today. Not much respect out of the Wildkittens right now. Most expect us to flame out before the Final Four.

It's true, we haven't fared well in the tourney since the 2003 NC team, but we also haven't had a team nearly as good as this one since then (taking into consideration the AO injury that derailed us in 2010).

I don't really consider last year to be a tremendous flame out, considering we lost to a Marq team that beat us earlier in the season, and knew what it would take to do it again.

2010 was disappointing, but we lost to an upstart Butler team that almost won the NC, mainly because we lost AO for the season. Most of us knew that our NC chances took a giant hit that year when Arinze went down. We definitely weren't as deep that year as we are this year.

We really need a deep run this year (Final Four minimum) to avoid being stereotyped as a "Pitt" type team; one that consistently flames out in the tourney.

If any thing theyll get knocked out by a big east team for the 3rd year in a row

There just jealous. Heck Uconn fans are already jealous after the luckiest run ever last year. Spoiled brats.

The part about only beating a terrible Nova team by 13 was rich.

It appears UK fans aren't particularly good at simple math, as reflected by this quote:

Here is all you need to know about the GREAT ZONE SYRACUSE TEAMs...they have been to 2 Elite 8s in 26 years...2...They cant knuckle up and guard you man to man, that is why they get torched come tourny time...for all th ehome games and regular season mastery, they lose early in about every tourny...

2012- 26 years = 1986

Hmmmm?

1987 we went to the National Championship game...I'm fairly sure we passed through the Elite 8 on that trip (they can ask UNC fans if they need verification)

1989 we lost to Illinois in the Elite 8

1996 we lost to some team by the name of Kentucky (I'm not sure the fans on that site are familiar with that little known program). Once again, we had to pass through that darn Elite 8 to get there.

2003 we won the National Championship. I'd have to go back and look at the brackets, but I'm fairly sure we didn't receive a bye directly into the Final Four that year.

Sure, only 4 Elite Eights in 25 years leaves much to be desired for myself, as a diehard Syracuse fan. It's not up there with the Dukes, UNCs, KU's, UK's, UConn's and Michigan States of the world, but it's still respectable. We average a National Championship game a little over once every 8 years, and an Elite 8 once every 6 years. Looks like we're overdue because we haven't had one in 9 years.

is this right, I thought JB was undefeated in elite 8 games?

Well, UK fans are obnoxious in general, no argument here. But looking at that thread, there appear to be a few sensible posts, then the inherit stupid posts. We don't have any of that happening here...

One idiotic post there says Cuse has only been to 2 Elite 8s in last 26 years. Last time I checked I believe they've been to the natl championship game 3 times, not sure about Elite 8s.

He's undefeated in National Semifinal games. We lost to the 1989 Fighting Illini team in the Elite 8. We had a good team that year (Coleman, Owens, Sherm, Thompson), but lost to a great Illinois team (Gill, Battle, Liberty, Nick Anderson and a few others that have been deleted from my memory). It's JB's only loss in the Elite 8. Illinois was also the higher seed and favorite.

Sweet 16 has been his biggest bugaboo. Horrible record in the Sweet 16.

If I were a UK fan, I'd be more worried about not getting to the Final Four than talking about SU not getting there. I think that team is like crystal. Very good looking, but prone to fracturing when the pressure is put on it.

Plus one.

If any Kentucky fan reads this, kindly note that your program is an abomination. The fact that you continue to allow your arena to be named after that racist POS Adolph Rupp is an embarrassment. Seriously? Rupp Arena. Glorifying that a$$hole because he won some basketball games for you says all anyone needs to know about your university's character. All of your titles except for three came at a time when 12 schools gave a about basketball. Three is impressive, but UNC, Duke and even UConn have all lapped you over the last thirty-four years.

Your program is the biggest cheater in the history of the sport. Your coach has had two of his three Final Fours erased - that isn't a coincidence, and that isn't something that can be explained away.

The idiots on that thread who think our zone is equal to Auburn obviously no nothing college basketball or basketball in general. I would say something about the entire state of Kentucky, but Louisville fans actually understand basketball. I can't imagine what it must be like for them to have to share a state with those inbreds.

It's only a matter of time before you're on probation again, so enjoy this while it lasts.

The only thing to fear about a zone defense is a ugly game. They won't play it any better than Auburn did last night, or Old Dominion did. We beat North Carolina (at home I know) and their a better team than the Cuse. You watch, Louisville will smoke them at least once this season.
That was the best.

Yeah thats a way mock our zone defense but then try to outshoot it with freshmen. They are lucky they have lamb and he didn't try to jump pro.

Boeheim needs to get to another Elite 8 or beyond. I can't stand seeing that brought up in every discussion about Syracuse.

Maybe he's not the best tournament coach, but the regular season wins count as well. Its not like Calipari has had anymore success than JB.

Where is NYCATFAN? I want to read his take.

This is so true. Even lining in Cincinnati I see it and it's a reason why I actually respect UofL and think highly of their fans in general.

FWIW, one of the crapiest jobs I had was a few summers ago working cash money in rebuilding a neglected house in Berea, KY (1/2 hr south of Lexington) with TONS of UK stuff I got to smash to peices.

i think someone debunked this, boeheims record in the long run coincides with the seeds he has had.

Probably before the last two years, but since the NC season we've definitely lost to lower seeds more than we've upset higher seeds.

2004: L to 8 seed Alabama in Sweet 16 (we were a 4 or 5 seed)
2005: L to 13 seed Vermont in First round (we were a 4 seed)
2006: L to 12 seed Texas AM in First round (we were a 5 seed)
2007: NIT
2008: NIT
2009: L to 2 seed Oklahoma in Sweet 16 (we were a 3 seed, this was the only time we went out "when we were supposed to")
2010: L to 5 seed Butler in Sweet 16 (we were a 1 seed)
2011: L to 11 seed Marquette in 2nd round (we were a 3 seed)

So, imo, we have failed to perform well in the tourney since we won the NC. We've failed to beat a single higher seeded team (0-1), and we've lost to lower seeded teams 5 times. We've definitely underachieved in the last decade.

Unfortunately we just have to take the hits on the NCAA tourney record. It is abysmal. The Sweet 16 record is JB's albatross. It is an embarrassment for a coach as good as he is. And forget what other fan bases think of it, we have had to live it! Absolutely need to get past that game this year.

JB is 4-11 in Sweet 16 games. Out of those 11 losses, he's been upset by lower seeded teams 6 times. He lost the game to a higher seed a total of 4 times (went out when they were supposed to). Seeding didn't start until 78, so I couldn't include 77 in these tallies.

My numbers may be off because I only looked at it quickly, but I think JB has only upset a higher seeded team in the tourney a total of 5 times (UNC in 87; Kansas in 96; Oklahoma, Texas and Kansas in 03).

In 28 tourney appearances, JB has been upset by a lower seeded team a total of 14 times. He's lost to a higher seeded team (gone out when he's supposed to) a total of 12 times.

He's really good at winning first round games, compiling a record of 23-5 in the first round game over 28 years.

He's good at winning the Elite Eight game, going 3-1.

He's great at winning the National Semifinal game, going 3-0.

Sweet 16 is definitely JB's albatross. 4-11 with 6 upsets to lower seeded teams during this round is really, really bad.
