UNC despondent

I remember when our 08-09 orange lost what 4 out of 5, someone needs to tell them its not that bad.
Every school outside of a crappy uconn team, a uk and a ville team(three schools that are really hard to like) would have loved to have a title 4 years ago.

UNC just appears to be going through what we went through post-Carmelo. They will be fine. They've even had more success in the four years after their 09 title than we did after our 03 title, making the Elite 8 twice in the past 4 years.
UNC has 3 top 15 recruits coming in next year. They will be fine.

Haven't they had multiple years of top 10 classes there?

We are irrelevant to them. I just visited their board, and at least based upon thread titles, there was not a single reference to us or to the Sat game. Same held true on their premium board (you can see the thread titles on that board as well).

Very self-absorbed over there.

I expect by about the middle of the first half they will have become quite irrelevant to us.

Whenever you play NC State I'm sure you will hear a lot of fans going on about "academics." Keep in mind their star player last year was the only person ever to graduate from his high school...it opened just in time to admit him, he was the only senior in his class, and it shut down just after he graduated. Oh, and conveniently, that "high school" was run by an NC State alumn and booster.

There is shadiness all over the college sports world. Carolina behaved idiotically for decades claiming that we were better than everybody else when in actuality we played the game just like every other school. Now, we're getting embarrassed for throwing stones from a glass house, but the schools targeting us had their glass houses shattered long ago. It really is a bizarre world.
I flat out do not believe you. when a story is unbelievable odds are very strong that itis false. the NCAA would not have approved the players HS credits if it was how you paint it.

Roy's won 2 NC's while there. I'd be pretty happy with that.

Winning titles is as much about luck of the draw as it is about talent and coaching. Roy's teams had more freaking talent than anyone. And as I recall, they got one of them after a bad call saved them against Villanova in the Dome, correct? By all rights they should have never made that Final Four. We don't have a phantom 3rd foul whistled on JDub before halftime in 1996, maybe we have him on the floor at the end and pull off the upset? We had the momentum before he fouled out. You never know.

I'm not saying Roy isn't a great coach, because he is. The record speaks for itself. But you wonder why he couldn't get it done in Kansas with all the talent he had there. He had to come to UNC to get the hardware. Just one of those oddities of college hoops.

People say the same thing about Boeheim - that he should've won more with all the talent he's had.

I agree that luck has a lot to do with it, but you know what the definition of good luck is? When preparedness meets opportunity.

All you can ask of your coach is that his team is prepared when the opportunity arises. Roy Williams has shown himself able to do that.

One case involves students who poorly, the other case involves institutional fraud - there is a big difference.

Two players, two years, three suspensions, and a horrible recent APR.

I for one don't give a crap about the academics part of college sports and think all these guys should be able to play, but I really think it makes us look stupid calling out other schools for academic when we've had our recent issues as well as having trouble clearing two of them before this season. I wouldn't be shocked if a majority of college teams read at a 5th grade level, I'm not knocking the players as I don't blame them, I blame the high schools and the colleges that accepted them. The only thing most these guys know is basketball.

With all due respect, the "phantom travel" on Nova negated a 2 point basket when they were down 3 with seconds left. They still would have been down and UNC would have had the ball if the bucket had counted.

Yes and no. It probably should have been an and-1 foul if not for the "travel" call, which would have given them a chance to tie the game.
