Yeah - you can see std. deviation of ~11.xxx (or it was) either here or another site.Wow. We have a highest/lowest rank range of 4 to 37. That’s got to be way above the average spread.

noI wonder if the 10 min Qs hurt us with the computers. Do they factor that in?
4 ACC teams in Top 25 and they're all in the Atlantic Division. Can't wait until next year.
UNC switched divisions?
I'm talking about the link Atlanticuse posted. UNC is like 28th in that list.
Edit: they're 33rd.
Sagarin has us 37th. They have Purdue 35th. How in the world can anyone create an algorithm so messed up that it comes up with garbage results like this?I've been following this mash-up for a while - it's interesting...
We really need SWC to do a composite analysis of the Composite Ranking Systems…Sagarin has us 37th. They have Purdue 35th. How in the world can anyone create an algorithm so messed up that it comes up with garbage results like this?
Jeff, it is time to fix your algorithm. You can and must do better.
Is this the ranking that will determine who the 2nd best team is in the ACC? Hopefully the team that goes to the Orange Bowl?

I feel like this is the same as (when college basketball) differs between Sagarin and KenPom.Sagarin has us 37th. They have Purdue 35th. How in the world can anyone create an algorithm so messed up that it comes up with garbage results like this?

Time doesn't matter to the algorithm. In fairness I bet the Wagner game being 10 mins shorter hurt our total stats. Also Purdue out gained us by 180 yards. Plus we barely beat a bad UVA team.
That being said I do think he needs to put more value in Ws and Ls.
Time doesn't matter to the algorithm.
With that said, we have ZERO record versus top-10... and even weirder, zero record versus top-30 (!!).
So it's a self-serving prophecy. If we're not top-30, and NC State, Purdue, etc. aren't top-30... ACC is really weak, basically.
We had 631 yards and 59 points against Wagner, I don’t know how the algorithm works, but that should be max points awarded and if not, I don’t think scoring an extra touchdown or 2 would make a big difference. If we play another 10 mins vs Wagner we have over 100 more yards that game and another 10 points or so.
Wagner is number 257 of 261 teams. We had 631 yards and 59 points against Wagner, I don’t know how the algorithm works, but that should be max points awarded and if not, I don’t think scoring an extra touchdown or 2 would make a big difference.
If it comes down to schedule strength, let's take a look at how we stack up with Wake Forest.Wagner is number 257 of 261 teams.
That alone hurts us. Playing them at home...
If it comes down to schedule strength, let's take a look at how we stack up with Wake Forest.
We both play the same 4 teams in the Atlantic, though we play Wake on the road. So we have a harder schedule for those games.
For intradivision rival, our annual Coastal rival is Pitt, who is going to be the best or the second best team in the Coastal. I think that is pretty much a given at this point. We play them in Pittsburgh.
I believe Wake's Coastal rival is Duke. At Duke.
Advantage Syracuse.
The other Coastal team we play is Virginia. At home. Wake plays UNC, also at home.
Advantage Wake.
As far as OOC opponents go, here is who Wake plays this year:
at Vanderbilt
Liberty at home
VMI at home
Army at home
We play
at Connecticut
Purdue at home
Wagner at home
ND at home
Vanderbilt is 3-4 and has given up over 50 points in all three SEC games they have played. That said, they are probably still a little better than 3-5 UConn.
I was going to say Purdue is better than Liberty this year but Liberty is 6-1. Their best win at against Old Dominion. They barely beat Southern Mississippi and Gardner Webb.
Purdue has wins over Minnesota, who was ranked at the time, at Maryland and vs Nebraska. I think they are the better team but not by a ton.
And obviously ND, even in a down year, is far better than Army, who is having a down year (currently 2-4).
So we have the strength of schedule. Still think we need to beat them head to head to stay solidly ahead of them. But if we both end up with 2 losses, and we beat them (on the road), this should be a no brainer.
that's part of our issue to-date.the problem with SOS is that you could play 1-2-3-250 and someone else play 30-31-32-32 and the stats say the 2nd one is harder when eyeball says clearly the first is harder.
