B1G schools are no comparison to ACC schools.

Big jump for SUNY Buffalo too. Up 27 since 2013 and they've pulled even with Binghamton, which was always the most selective SUNY. Given how much application numbers and acceptance rates matter to these rankings, maybe their uptick in the two big sports in recent years is really helping them.

By the same token, Alabama is down 76 spots! Perhaps too much success means people think you're a football team with a university attached rather than the other way around?

This is surprising because they are making a concerted effort to draw more OOS students by offering scholarships that reduce tuition to the in-state level before any financial aid is considered.

A giant population of college applicants who want to pay in-state tuition helps a lot. For the state schools on the list, there does appear to be a correlation between state population growth and rises in the rankings. Financially, the UC system has been a mess for some time and they've made lots of cuts across the board but as long as the number of applicants rise and freshmen retention rates remain high, again because of tuition costs that are lower relative to private schools, their rankings are going to increase. It's difficult to say that they are "better" schools than they were 10 years ago but they are better ranked.

The UF thing was what really stood out to me too. That and the huge swings in some schools. Nebraska dropped by like 40 points in a coupe years.

IIRC, they lost their AAU status when SU did. Wonder if that's related?

Probably not. But on some rankings emphasizing on researches, mainly on medical, science and engineering, both Syracuse and Nebraska are ranked about 200th, dropping fast since they got kicked out of AAU. Thanks God US News and World Report is not based on research publishing which B1G schools excel.

Syracuse is rated in the top tier (R1) by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education. We withdrew from the AAU when that organization changed its rating emphasis to medical research. The writing was on the wall then. We are still doing research, just not medical since we sold our medical school years ago.

SUNY threatened us. They said if we don't sell them cheap to them, they would build new medical center near Syracuse and compete with us.

Wow! That's ugly. IIRC someone here said at one time not too long ago that SUNY was looking to sell the Upstate MC. Anything new on that?

Point of trivia, a good friend did his residency and then worked at Upstate. Came up to visit him in 80 and 88 to see MLax championships at Ithaca and the Dome, respectively.
