Found this while tooling around the interwebs. Sounds like brash talk and/or a negotiating ploy. Not sure where they'd put their BB and non-revenue sports, but who knows?

How big of a RSN contract makes it worth it?

Basketball would be fine in the WCC.

They’d have no issues getting scheduled and could get 2-1s from plenty of schools.

But why would Root sports give them a ridiculous contract for their 4 worst home games? Wouldn’t good ones or most in general be on the major networks ie every other ND game on NBC.

As an independent they would probably have games with ND, Stanford & UCLA. That leaves 9 games per year. Maybe a BYU series would make sense. That only leaves 8 remaining game schedule per year. Good luck!

ND is their rival, not UCLA like a lot of people think ("UCLA? My maid went to UCLA."). They would definitely want to keep that game, so would ND, and with both being independent it would be pretty easy to retain. I'm sure BYU would love to have yearly games with USC-w.

You have a maid? :p

I understand about UCLA. Other than ND you would think they would want to play their current instate opponents (Stanford & UCLA) ;). BYU would be a convenient matchup. Perhaps a 3-for-1 with Liberty, Liberty, Liberty. They could probable have another game or two each year against a PAC school and buy a couple of G-5 games. Throw in a 1-AA and they’re still left with 3-4 more games to schedule each year including an occasional neutral site opener.

Unless they pull something like an ND-ACC deal with the PAC it’s going to be tricky.

Screw USC and ND. Give me Texas and WVU

I may have mentioned this before. A guru on our board has always said Texas was offered the deal the ACC has with ND before it was offered to ND, but they declined. He says that if it is ever offered again it won't be declined.

I still want to trade Louisville for Maryland . Really wish SU played the Terps in all sports annually. Good for recruiting and alum proximity.
Eh Louisville brings more football and basketball prominence though.

Why would UCLA and Stanford give USC home/homes after costing them millions of dollars in PAC-12N revenue by leaving.
Texas and Texas A&M haven’t played since A&M went to the SEC.

USC would play San Diego State, Frenso State for CA games.

BYU/Boise State for West Coast games.

Notre Dame for rivalry.

Then try to fill out the rest. They could do it but the school isn’t as popular nationally as Notre Dame since Pete Caroll left.

They just want Larry Scott’s attention with these threats.

Why are people throwing stanford around they are a bottom feeder program ND schedules them for the same reasons they play the academies Walt Harris era is the norm there not Harbaugh. They also have owned USC head to head recently and who they’d want to get away from.

They’d want to probably play ND and a rotating group of 3-4 blue bloods Bama Texas Michigan every year and then have 7 games they expect to win all of.

ND has ran train on the ACC since agreeing to 6 games a year no one knocks them off. USC by contrast is barely .500 in the PAC same general timeframe.

I would take Notre Dame, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, and if necessary Oklahoma St, and Kansas St. Then the Big 10, and SEC can hemorrhage. That would give the ACC the best of both worlds.

I don't think Stanford under David Shaw is any sort of "bottom feeder".

Nothings says “Atlantic” like California and Texas. Nor Indiana and Kentucky...

The Gulf of Mexico is a large ocean basin near the Southeastern United States. It is a part of the Atlantic Ocean and is bounded by Mexico to the southwest, Cuba to the southeast, and the Gulf Coast of the United States on the north, which includes the states of Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas (map). <50%

It's all bluster. USC lacks the individual footprint to pull it off. Texas and ND can pull it off, but nobody else. Also, PAC 12 would likely retaliate and shun USC in its scheduling.

Looks like BYU might be on the way to making it as a football independent.

To insinuate that USC and UCLA do not have a rivalry is just plain silly. Does it rate behind ND in football, ... yes (most years, but not exclusively). But your claim is hyperbolic. I think most would agree, a school can have multiple rivals. USC-UCLA is a real thing that encompasses almost every sport, including football (but not softball surprisingly ... USC does not have a team).

Don't get me wrong, they do want to beat UCLA in everything. The football game does take a backseat to ND, though, and if John McKay didn't think South Bend was too cold in November, it would always be the last game of the year instead of just the last game of even-numbered years. UVa has a similar on-going "family discussion" as to whether our rival is VPI or UNC. It's a generational divide with the older alums saying UNC and the younger ones saying VPI. Everyone wants to beat them both, but VPI is the last football game of the year.
