MTSU o-line looks to be the opposite of ours. Decent run blocking but can't pass protect to save their lives. Stockstill has been sacked 4 times already

Still early, but so far, Shafer is dying with the blitz. Vandy is picking them all up and finding easy completions over the middle.

Vandy looks good but for all that MT was last year they look pretty woeful so far given they are at home. Shafers D is really bad vs the pass.

Shafer made some adjustments at the half which he is very good at. OL is going to have to do a good job vs the blitz and if they do a lot of good things will happen offensively for SU. SU can't have little guys do the blocking on the quick outs though...but some heft behind it and the yards will flow.

Vandy was stubborn and kept trying to force the run.

They ran like 60-65 plays with 30+ being runs.

When they passed in 1Q they scored and moved the ball with ease. Then they stopped doing what was successful and kept trying to get their RB stats.

I feel much better now than I did yesterday about next week.

I didn't see the game but it looks like Vandy had great success passing (20-28 296 yards 3 TDs) and got totally stuffed trying to run the ball. Coach Shafer put 8 men in the box and took away the run completely. Vandy had dominated MT State the last couple of years running the ball.

Middle Tennessee State had tremendous problems with the Vandy pass rush, which destroyed their vaunted offensive attack. Their coach sounded really surprised at how portly they played.

NEW PLAYERS : Middle Tennessee had 20 players see action for the Blue Raiders for the first time Saturday against Vanderbilt. They had seven redshirt freshmen, four true freshmen and nine transfers see action in the opener.

That's a lot of newbies.
