Say it ain't so ... this would change the whole vibe and history of Varsity. I might lose my mind if this happens..

Varsity BLVD LLC has proposed demolishing the buildings containing two Syracuse University icons, Varsity Pizza and Faegans Pub, at 732 and 802 S. Crouse Ave. and building new, mixed-use project in their place. The new project would include eight floors of apartments, two floors of commercial space and a 200-space parking facility. Varsity Pizza and Faegans Pub would be tenants in the $64 million project.

Whew, you scared me. As long as they get rebuilt and Varsity and Faegan's aren't actually going away, I'm ok with this. Obviously some of the charm will be lost, but the important part will be that the businesses will still be there; just in shinier packaging.

They might as well do it while the stadium is being renovated since we wont have any home games to go to for a while. Would be really cool if they could get it done at the same time as the Dome.

Plus - if they get rebuilt, they can give them both more capacity. I always avoided Varsity on game days because it's so overcrowded. And while I love Faegan's the floorplan isn't exactly conducive to a big crowd (especially since, at least when I was at SU, they very rarely ever opened up the additional space on the other side of the bar).

And they are proposing adding parking too which the hill needs.
I've never bothered to even look - there's that alley right between Varsity/Faegan's...what the heck is back there? Always seemed like wasted potential parking spaces, but then again, I always figured it was probably private parking for business owners/workers.

Link for this?

It is private business parking so its not worth looking at. If we expand/improve The Dome and they tear down Varsity...lets remake Varsity IN The Dome and make it 5 times bigger. THAT would be the only acceptable option haha.

I had a small panic attack when I thought they were closing and never returning. Varsity is probably my favorite place to eat on campus and I love Faegan's as well.

There's been buzz about Faegan's et al. being torn down for months. Looks like the scope has expanded. Kind of disappointing - Varsity is a dump, but it's our dump. Bound to lose something in the reconstruction, probably going to be another antiseptic faux-sports bar.

Don't mean to be too contrary, but a 200-space garage right at South Crouse and Marshall isn't going to enhance most users' Hill experience. Going to be a congestion nightmare for Dome events.

On the whole, it's probably going to be a good project. Access-wise, it's not adding a whole lot (in my opinion).

A handful of surface spots and a couple businesses (including a bakery that resells Harrison and other local products). Could be put to better use, which this project should do.

i can picture joe stanley suing workers comp over "mesomozzarrella" fumes exposure.

Yeah, but that line moves quick. I've never had any problem getting a couple slices in a matter of minutes regardless of how crowded it is.

Unless you're looking to sit down. I never minded eating on the walk to the Dome.

correct. its a small private lot that I used to park in when I DJ's at Faegans back in the day. most others got towed from there.

I'm a commercial real estate guy so I'm thrilled for progress but I'm also nostalgic and will miss the memories (and some mammarys) from both. If the new Faegan's has a "closed side" I'll still be allowed to hang there, and hopefully still serve myself, but it wont be the same :(

Decent...
