I am going to Las Vegas tomorrow and would like to place a bet on the Cuse-St. John's matchup. Any thoughts on the line and whether Cuse will cover? Aside from a straight bet, how else can I bet? I never understood parley, etc.

U can do moeyline which is probably like 900 for this game, which means you risk 900 to win a 100,but there isno spread to cover...moneyline parlays work really well for me in college games

Thanks, Paulie. How do I know what the moneline bet will be? Is it posted on the web somewhere or do I have to ask the casino?

The line will be double digits. Parlays are not good bets over the long run, but if you're only there for a day parlay Cuse with The over/under. If both hit you make 2.6x your bet.

Betonline.com is the first site to release college spreads, Wynn in vegas is the first in vegas to release lines. So be on the lookout in the next few hours.

Yeap, go to sportsinteraction.com...their lines are always on par with vegas and you can plug in bets to see what the payouts will be

Guessing line might be around -9?

Anyway, a parley is a multiple bet "bet". means you take someone like Cuse -9 (Cuse has to win by more than 9 points to cover), plus another game ...for example UNC -8 (or another type of bet in the Cuse game...i.e. over/under 165). You have to win each part of the parley to win the bet. the more "bets" you add to the parley the greater the payout.

SU is -12.5 and the over/under is 136.
Guess I kind of like SU and the under.
Tough game. Good luck.

the farm... on syracuse... they win by 50 going away... boom

I'll take the line and over the points in a parley... ALL DAY Cuse 85-68

I think we will cover but 136 over is quite high. That is going to scare me if St. John's is going to score on us.

St Johns has been putting up alot of points their last few games, that definitely scares me.

When you are in the sports book you will see something like this:

#247 Syracuse -12.5 -110

The -110 means you need to put up $110 to win $100 (essentially any bet you make you pay a 10% vig if you lose, so a $50 bet will cost you $55). You would tell the cage you want $50 on #247 (which represents betting SU -12.5), and he will ask you for $55. If you win, you get your $55 back plus $50 in profit.

On a line that high, there probably will not be a money line. If there was, on the far right side of the game on the board would be a number like "-380". All bets represent odds on a $100 bet, so -380 means you need to put up $380 to win $100, or if you want to risk $100 you would only win $27 ($100/380).

Meatball this is excellent! Do you have an opinion on what to take on parlaying the line and over/under?

If gambling were legal, and I were betting on this game, I would definitely be going with SU and the over. I expect something like 81-65 in this game.

If you're going to parlay, personally I'd take straight bets as much as possible while avoiding over/under and the spread, but that's just me.

Of course the last bet I made was a three way parlay (only bet 5, but would have won 60...I'm a casual/fun gambler) and I freaking lost because Missouri State lost by 1.

Gambling brings out your competitive nature, that's for sure.

While you are out there, some casinos offer "Futures" bets, and will have odds on SU winning the National Championship. Look around at several places and see who offers the best line (recently seen one at +700, meaning you would win 7x your bet). Do the same looking around on the line for any game you're betting, SU may be -12.5 at one place and -11.5 elsewhere, and the O/U is likely to be different as well.

If they win you can mail the ticket in to get paid.

Parlays are very tough to hit when going against the spread, even with a 2 or 3 teamer.

I had a 3 team parlay 2/3 of the way in earlier in the week (pays 6 to 1) and Missouri didn't cover by half a point, absolutely brutal.

Bounced back and won a 3 teamer with Michigan/Georgetown/St. John's.

Watching the games anyway, nice to have a little incentive to root for someone.

Man, you saw one at +700? If betting were legal, I would have put some money on +400 a couple weeks ago. Of course, the loss and Fab probably pushed the number back up, so BEFORE we beat St. John's might be the best time if you can get +700.

I wish I'd bet preseason. We were something like +1200.

Exactly, that's why when I do parlays I try to go straight money line. I feel more comfortable picking winners than picking over/unders and spreads, even though I know those are the ways to win more.

Edit: and somehow, my 2000th post was about gambling.

This is great! I will put some $ down on Cuse for the national title!

It was last week before Fab was coming back. Just looked though, and it is still there.

Hypothetically that is. If gambling were legal.

Yeah I tend to put money lines into parlays as well.

So syr02esq, if you parlay teams on the money line it adds or reduces the payout based on if you are giving away or taking additional points.

For example, a typical 3 teamer pays 6 to 1 going against the spread. If you took 3 teams that are all favorites and parlayed them all on the money line (say they are each favorites and -150 on the money line), it may then only pay 3 to 1, but now you only need those teams to win outright.
