This week, TNIAAM writers are taking a stab at telling you why this football team will finish with a specific record.
http://www.nunesmagician.com/2015/8...inish-3-9-season-preview-worst-case-oh-god-no
For fun, I am writing one with the best case ...12-0 as the record. I know that it is unlikely to happen but it seems very negative that 7-5 is the high water mark for the season. Strange things can happen in college football.
Rhode Island:The 2014 team took Villanova a little too lightly. It didn't help they lost their starting quarterback in the first half and struggled to implement a new offense with a backup signal caller. I doubt either of those things happen this time. The new offense this year takes no time to get rolling. Irv Philips, the surprise star in the making, finishes with 4 TDs two rushing and two receiving. Hunt has a balanced day as well. Defense pitches a shutout and wins 42-0 and Austin Wilson leads team on two scoring drives in mop up duty (not overtime)(1-0, 0-0)
Wake Forest:Not to dwell on last year too much, but an undermanned Syracuse team went into Winston-Salem and pummeled the Demon Deacons 30-7 with a backup quarterback. This time Hunt puts in work to the tune of 240 passing yards and another 65 on the ground, for three total touchdowns in the 31-7. The lone Wake TD is late in the fourth quarter. (2-0, 1-0)
Central Michigan: Once again, Syracuse commits to the run and overpowers an inferior team. McFarlane breaks another 50-yard run in what's become his signature at this point in his career. George Morris and Erv Philips both get into the end zone on the ground as well. This time the margin is slightly closer than last year, 42-14, but the confidence is building in the locker room and the sky seems like the limit heading into the biggest test of the season.(3-0, 1-0)
LSU:It's amazing what confidence and a 3-0 start can do for a team. In a sold-out Dome, the Orange shock the surprisingly slow and beat up Tigers. Thanks to a Rodney Williams interception on the Tigers' opening drive, and a quick-strike touchdown from Hunt to Ishmael, SU takes an early 10-0 lead in the first quarter and the Dome is rocking once again. It is soon 17-0 as surprising multidimensional star Irv Philips takes a reverse for 80 yards and a TD on the next orange possession. The Tigers begin to panic. Orange defense continues to gain momentum. LSU scores a TD to close out the first half it is 17-7. Syracuse goes 3 and out to start second half. LSU promptly drives to the SU 6 yard line. Grumbling and negative energy in the dome quickly turns to cheers as freshman sensation CB Cordell Hudson takes an interception 99 yards and leaps into the Syracuse student section. It is now 24-7 SU and they never look back. Les Miles white hat is drenched in sweat and on TV it appears to read SU instead of LSU. National media is shocked and Syracuse is ranked for the first time since 2001. (4-0, 1-0)
at South Florida:After the bye week and incredible partying on campus, the Orange look miraculously composed in the hot Florida sun in early October. With so many other weapons on offense, it is surprising to see Hunt make more happen with his feet. He has an incredible day running the ball and teams now just can't figure out how to stop this offense. SU wins going away 31-7. (5-0, 1-0)
at Virginia:Virginia is destroyed by an early season brutal schedule. The last thing they need is an undefeated, confident, and #16 ranked Syracuse squad coming into Charlottesville. SU scores two quick touchdowns and Virginia packs in it. The Wahoos score two TDs in garbage time. 34-14 (6-0, 2-0)
Pittsburgh:Keeping with traditional form when Syracuse is up, Pitt is down. The burden of coming into a sold out Carrier Dome is just too much for the Panthers. Orange fever has swept central New York. Orange dominate 41-0 in front of a raging dome crowd. Irv Philips is in the Heisman conversation and Terrell Hunt is being compared in the national media to college football's version of Russell Wilson. SU defense is getting better every week. (7-0, 3-0)
at Florida State:ESPN College Gameday is in the house. Lee Corso grabs an Orange Otto mask to put on but as a FSU homer just can't do it. Kirk Herbstreet likes the "Express" back and does not think that Florida State can stop it. A surprising crowd of Syracuse fans have made the trip to Tallahassee. Orange win justify their top 10 ranking and shock the Noles by implementing a balanced offensive attack and staunch defense. Orange fever is at a boiling point, 31-13 (8-0, 4-0)
at Louisville: This time SU faces another experienced quarterback inWill Gardner who tears up the Syracuse secondary in a shocking first half. It is Orangeland's worst fear. Bobby Patrino has seemed to discover a way to beat our valiant defense. Hunt is having an off day as he is deciding to stay in the pocket completely. The Cardinals are up 21-3 at the end of the second quarter. The Orange prove they have moxy and turn things around in the second half. Hunt is reminded what makes him a good QB and scores two rushing touchdowns and throws for a third on a pretty deep ball to Ishmael to lead the team to a 24-21 victory. Chuck Bullough makes adjustments and the defense does not allow a point to close out the game. (9-0, 5-0)
Clemson:After two straight weeks the Orange faithful are at a fever pitch. Clemson comes in to town hoping to take away some of the momentum. The Dome is just too powerful a force. Dabo Sweeney can't send plays to the QB. No one has heard anything like it. The national media proclaims the experience is louder than Century Link in Seattle. The Carrier Dome is the best home field advantage in college sports. This has been a truly special season and nothing will stop the Orange today, 34-0. (10-0, 6-0)
at NC State: The Wolfpack are outmatched and Syracuse comes into Raleigh with a #1 national ranking. This breeds confidence in the Orange squad. The first two Syracuse drives are touchdowns. The defense is its usual self and the Orange win 42-7. (11-0, 7-0)
Boston College: SU is a bit overconfident as they are looking forward to the college football playoff. The game starts ugly and the Orange are down 10-0 to start the game. However, Hunt won't be denied and takes over and ensures the first undefeated Syracuse season since 1987. Final Score 24-10 (12-0, 8-0)
- Monday: 3-9 (Brian Tahmosh)
- Tuesday: 4-8 (Michael Burke)
- Wednesday: 5-7 (James Szuba)
- Thursday: 6-6 (John Cassillo)
- Friday: 7-5 (Sean Keeley)
