Villanova

If after nearly 50 years of coaching doesn’t give you a hint, JB will always stick with his best five players whenever possible. It’s worked for him and that is what he does. People can complain all they want but it’s not going to change. That’s who he is and he’s won over 1000 games doing it.

yep that’s true, it’s not going to change...

...but currently we are 12-11 and its worth discussing with the new world of the transfer portal and how not playing a bench could affect players coming and going in the future.

...or we can just say everything is fine. that works too

You think JB lies a lot. I don’t. I’ve showed numerous times where people were going off the deep end but were taking things out of context. And there’s other times he’s telling the truth and people don’t like the truth.
Lying is not the right word. Exaggerates is. Just like some posters do here all the time. This really shouldn’t be controversial.

I’ve stuck up for JB a lot in the past here and been fair to him over the years. If he can keep the winning streak up then great I’ll give him credit, but come on what are we doing here. Our regular seasons have been frustrating.

They said they wanted to finish in the top 3 at the beginning of the season. We aren’t close to that.

If this was Dino people wouldn’t be nearly as touchy about this subject.

All good. I spent 10 minutes looking for sunglasses this morning that were hanging around my neck.
I have old man memory but I remember two things really well about 2010: the doom I felt when AO got injured because we were the best team in the country with him, and I remember that the one time I saw that team in person (at Allstate Arena against DePaul) was one of the few times that team looked like crap. Somehow both of these things must have been my fault

I don’t think JB lies.
He is his own version of the WH press secretary.
He knows how to spin.
He isn’t lying but he just knows how to deflect and rationalize the message he wants out.

Hey Coach, who cares what Villanova does? If Villanova jumped off a bridge, would you make SU do that???

But he hasn't always done it to this extent. I post a couple years ago listing the minutes played for guys like Douglas, Coleman, Owens, and Melo. They all played fewer than our recent marathon men and they're SU legends.

Now it’s down to 6 or more? And a couple of those guys don’t play every game. MPG is minutes played and games played. Not all games. And the thing that people overlook is that the better teams get more games where it’s a safe lead and can play deeper. But many games that Nova played close, they used 6 players for the most part. Someone plays 6 mins isn’t significant.
Six minutes is 15% of a game

And that cat averages six minutes over 18 games, so he has played in 78% of their games.

We have 8 guys averaging over six minutes.

His argument is false.

If we were 16-5 and people were complaining about the size of the rotation then JB could cite Nova.

We are 12-11 and irrelevant nationally. JB’s comparison is to a 16-5 top 15 team that in the last 8 years.
Has 2 NCs.
Been a 1 seed 3 times, 2 seed 1 time, 5 seed 1 time, 6 seed 1 time, the Covid year were 24-7 and then this season.

That fanbase has no reason to have any reactions but trust the HC.

Our program isn’t Nova.
Thus the context of Nova using 6 is a bad analogy by JB.

You're right. That's largely the issue. Boeheim does what he knows worked for him in the past. He just isn't adjusting, in fact, it's getting worse. Look at our damn roster. I mean, come on man. Regardless of how much you love Jim, let's be real here. There is a significant issue, and it didn't just happen over night. I respect the hell out of Jim. That said, it's time.

would love to bump this thread regularly but we know what will happen on the days they don’t play 6. *shrug*

to reiterate again, the vast majority of games Villanova have played more than 6 this season. This is a fact...as much as it hurts some that Jim might have embellished something. I know it’s very unlike him.

*cough*

JB, on Orange Nation just said that he'd looked at a Villanova box score and saw "four guys playing 40 minutes".

djcon57 on his way to his computer:

nah, he wins. If he looked at the latest box score and saw 4 guys playing 40, I can’t win a debate vs gaslighting

I would ask him what boxscore is he looking at?
