Vinny Lobdell Donor Group

I emailed Bryan Blair on this last week. Sadly, no reply as yet.

Other's have posted on here that a new basketball NIL collective announce is imminent...

I guess we'll see. It's been almost 5 months since Orange United shuttered... I don't understand what the hold up is.
Try Eric Silakowski. He is very responsive.

Right - was hoping it wasn’t sheer ignorance and poor messaging because they found a workaround… knowing it’s probably exactly that- not getting this right with messaging again.
i have no problem with the initiative at all. i applaud lobdell. i donated to the coaches fund last tuesday. just cant believe the articles and ads being written as if its for nil.

Let’s not forget that lots of talks were happening a few weeks ago during the hiring process too. Commitments were likely made from certain camps about time money and resources for an in family hire. This could be these groups starting on those commitments regardless of what pool the money is going to.

I’d be interested if certain big donors or “planned” collectives can promise the money up front with the expectation that if the fanbase money doesn’t come in until later that they’ll front it and itll still usable by gmac in the portal.

All the money in the world wouldn’t of helped red because he wasn’t a good head coach
Yeah, and I like how some are blaming his failure on lack of NIL (including Red himself). I'm sorry, but last year was more about lack of coaching than putting it on the players. Year 2 was a disaster in terms of roster management so whatever on that year. This year though, we had enough talent to get at least into bubble conversation if not into the tournament. That's squarely on him.

I can already see what's going to happen. If GMac is successful, the narrative for some will be that he got a lot more help with NIL than Red and that's why he succeeded. I was very opposed to hiring GMac but at this point, I've moved on and will fully support him. Let's go!

Well when Orange United closed, Syracuse University and the Athletics department did NOT think that they needed a collective for NIL

Agree. Any donation helps - whether to the coaches funds to help with additional assistants or support positions or whatever might be necessary. Personally, I am waiting to donate until a collective is set up so it goes specifically to NIL.

I imagine with Blair coming aboard that is/will change soon.

Wildhack was very good but in the traditional AD sense. Not quite built for the wild west today.

once again, we are missing the boat. that's not for NIL. i wonder how many people have donated money in the past week, and will continue to donate, not knowing they aren't donating to NIL and building a roster like every article tries to say. sad. waters shoud be ashamed too for not knowing the difference and writing things like this;

'The timing of the campaign comes in the days leading up to college basketball’s free agency period. Players seeking to transfer to a new school must submit their names into the NCAA transfer portal by April 21. The funds can help give McNamara more spending power in a narrow window when transfers and their agents are fielding offers and negotiating contracts with schools."

we need a bball nil collective asap.
Can you explain how Lobdell’s Gmac fund is not for NIL? Are you saying it goes to the SU athletic department to help fund the overall revenue share basket?

I might take a stab at it. Players can get paid two ways.

Revenue Sharing - Directly from School
NIL - Generally Businesses/Collectives.

The University taking this money presumably to cover their portion of revenue sharing.

This fund says coaches fund so it can be used for anything Gmac wants. Staff, equipment, etc. anything he wants EXCEPT NIL. SU funds of any color can’t be used for paying players except the rev share which isn’t considered nil either. Theres multiple buckets.

Is there any world in which college teams could start tanking? Let's say a team has a crappy year and they decide to fire the coach. They decide to move one of the assistants in an interim HC role and then take whatever NIL that they had allotted for the year and use the bare minimum and use the rest the following year on top of their regular allotment of NIL? I'm sure there are many holes in this logic but still, just wondering and also hoping it never comes to this.
