Virginia is ranked #8 because

I miss the days of 2009-2014, when we are always between a #1 seed and a #4 seed. Days when we think we could at least have a good chance against everybody in the country. We might accept a close defeat against a top team that was arguably slightly better than us.

Or even the days between 1993-2006 when we were more commonly a #3-#6 seed most year. Sure we might not be likely to win certain games, but we would not expect or be content with getting throttled.

But for the last 5 years its OK if we get killed by a good team and program like Virginia... because they are a good team, and well, we are not. And this is not a slap against the players -- they are doing the best they can and you can't really get mad at them. Its just a bigger reflection of where we are as a program as compared to the elite. The gap is so large now.

Gonzaga killed Virginia. Minnesota killed Michigan. Cuse killed VTech.

they are very good. End of story.
And we’re a middle of the pack ACC team at our best. End of story.

Does that make you feel good? We don’t have the resources to be better? It is what it is?
I’m sorry, we’ve had seasons where we may have lost games, but this is a new thing where you can go down the schedule and count automatic losses, this rarely happened during JBs tenure but striving to be .500 and calling it success is ridiculous.

It's not a new thing if you could say the same thing the past 6 years.

Yeah I guess if you ignore seven years worth of data you can point to single games or single teams and say "see? everything is fine." I wish I had the ability to do that. I'm in a way, kind of jealous.

There is nothing inherent to the Syracuse basketball program that says we have to be good.

5 loses thus far. 1 at Rutgers, who is a strong B1G team, without Sid and Bud. 4 losses against the top 3 teams in the league, maybe FSU is in their group as well. 3 of those on the road.

Their players hit their shots. It happens. Buddy will shoot his way out of it even if he gives up 50 points with his defense, his chance at scoring 30 outweighs that. On to the next.

And that is how you win a basketball game.

Yes If you do enough mental gymnastics you can rationalize a lot of losses.

I learned that these last few years.

Yep, I have us at 3 national championships due to the school helping Melo cheating at class and AOs injury.

Oh...actually make that 4. refs cheated against Ohio State.

We got players on the bench aka woody and braswell who can play no worse defense than what joe and buddy were giving us. Plus they are night and day more athletic. Joe and buddy barely gave us any offense either. Poor coaching job not trying to switch up and give them a different look .

One silver lining of the beat down is getting to watch a team execute a cohesive offensive strategy.

I remember when we were often ranked around 8, and a game against number 8 would be treated as just another tough game against a team we can probably beat if we play well.

Now it’s ok that we get curb stomped, because the other team is good.

That's an interesting point about schedule and automatic losses. It's getting to the point where I assume more losses than wins.
