...we are so fortunate to have these 3 guards...they each have strengths and weaknesses...and each has brought much to the game. I believe starting Scoop and Triche is good with Waiters off the bench...I believe Triche in at end of close games where we lead is important because of FT stats...some stat info that you all may find interesting before I show all stats:
  • They each have played within .1 of each other average per game...21.5 Waiters/Scoop; 21.4 Triche
  • Waiters and Scoop are shooting over 50% while Triche is over 40%
  • Triche is shooting nearly 40% from three while Waiters and Scoop are 34% and 32%
  • Triche has a far better asst to TO ratio of 3 to 1 vs. Scoop at 2 to 1 and Waiters at 2-1 being nice
  • Triche FT at 83% vs. Waiters at 71% and Scoop at 52%
  • Waiters is better at steals 2.1 vs Scoop at 1.8 and Triche at 1.2
This basically says we have have 3 good guards...would be interesting to see Triche play point and move Scoop and Dion to SGs...they both are better 2 pt shooters and drivers than Triche..but watch out if Triche starts driving and scoring...conversely if Waiters and Scoop start hitting 3s..ouch...

Stats thru 13 games (average)
Min Shoot% 3% Asst TO RBDS FT% Steals Points
Waiters 21.5 52 34 2.7 1.4 1.7 71 2.1 12.3

Scoop 21.5 55 32 3.9 2.0 2.2 52 1.8 9.2

Triche 21.4 42 40 3.1 1.2 2.1 83 1.2 9.8

These stats are nearly so even...guards are interchangeable....I would like to see Triche as PG along with MCW and Scoop and Dion the 2G; otherwise keep rotation as is and the starters stay the same

You don't even need to do it per 40 minutes.

But I think MCW has made it a quartet. I think JB played Rakeem and Michael so much in the last two games because he intends to keep them part of the rotaiton. Their roles might even grow as the season progresses.

I think he played them so much, especially MCW, because he could. Don't expect near the minutes in BE play but since we will have some handily won games, he'll get some chances at extended minutes. The Florida game was telling more so than the last couple of blow outs.

I agree. I do think rak has the potential to see added minutes though.

Me too. If we are playing a team that isn't real tall, I can see Rak take some center minutes from Keita.

I don't think it matters who plays point with this team (outside of MCW's hes clearly more of a Point then a SG).

I feel its more based on the play being called, and the guy with the ball telling the players around him where to go. What side/middle of the court the guy with the ball wants to start the set play from is what matters most. That sends a message to opponents to go ahead and guard who you want with whoever you want. We don't care.

Sometimes the offensive set is already set without calling a play. Sometimes our forwards are just in the right places.
Dion and Scoop shoot more off the dribble then Triche though. They clearly feel it in their game.

i know you tend to show somewhat of a bias (that's ok) but how exactly do you calculate the 3 to 1 ASS/TO ratio?

Bones...i rounded for each...3.1 asst vs 1.2 TOs is 2.6 rounded up...Scoop is 1.95 to 2 and Waiters is 2 to 1...not really bias opinion any more...still a Triche guy but do like the 3 out there...need a point..take Waiters...need some creative thinking...out of the box both good and bad...take Scoop...need vanilla and more consistent judgement...take Triche....

Happy holiday by the way

Old dog and new tricks...I don't think we will see much of Rak and, especially, MCW, this year against the meat of the BE. JB will continue to do as he has always done.

your calculations are off. assist/to for each guard: BT 2.2, Dion 1.9, Scoop 2.0, MCW 3.2

Yup. Unless its a blow out we wont see much of rak and mcw from here on out, just like the florida and nc state games and the 2 games at the garden.

If MCW keeps progressing, we will see more of him. He knows what he needs to do, just needs to continue to feel more comfortable doing it. Way too much talent not to try and get him on the floor.

It will likely be more than we will see of Rak unless he suddenly figures out what he needs to do on a consistent basis.

This team is different then past years.
We have 6 guys who could score 15 any give night and a seventh (Melo) who can hit 10 any given night. We have 7 guys who can hit the three. Fiveof which are good for 3 three pointers any given night.

I wouldn't count rak and MCW out with that formula. So much firepower. It should be easy to get nice leads.

Playing MCW and Rak is good motivation and a way to put a end to the overcofidence when we have big leads.

Unlike years of past though KJo Dion and Scoops dribbling will bring a different formula. We should easily be able to put a end to settling for outside balls up 14 in a hostile road enviroment and get to the line some as well. Although With all our shooting firepower we might end up not caring :).

You don't mean Waiters minutes in the Florida game are telling do you?

????? Aren't we talking about MCW?

40:18 is a 2.2 ast:to ratio. That's some serious rounding up you've done.

When you are a swingman on the perimeter as the third scoring option you don't need to force passes as much unless the team formula supports it.

Heres a few of my observations. Not sure I am right but just my two cents.

1.Triche is not the penetrator Dion and Scoop are. They force themsleves into positions sometimes where he has to throw the ball into traffic or offbalence off the dribble to adviod travels and up and downs. It just naturally happens when opponents defenses start overcompestating left or right and doubling.

2. Triche tends to make a swingpass on the perimeter more often then a long pass into the low post.
Think back to Rautins and his long low post passes because AO was in the high post drawing a defender out of the paint. With Wes and Rautins on the perimeter that only left the opposition one defender in the right or left side of the low post We ran our offense so one weakside to the basket was open.

3. We have the dribbling trio in Scoop, Waiters and KJo so why force long LONG passes that have a chance at getting tipped when we have that much dribble isolation? Plus Fair is going to find more dribble isolation as he continues to knock down his midrange J.

4. Early in the year with Scoop starting we needed Triche to step up as the second scoring threat instead of forcing passes like a PG. Now that Scoop and melo are more in a scoring rythum Triche can make that extra swing pass.

5.When you got KJO driving passing to Scoop who drives one or two dribbles swings it to Triche who advoids a three with a defender flying at him for a pass to a wide open Southerland or CJ thats just a simple assist for Triche. Really all four guys deserve the assist. Including the one who got open to knock down the shot(who assits himself by being in the right postion).
