There is no guarantee on third and 23 they don’t get enough yards back into FG range anyway. Allowing that play to happen gives an opportunity for not only a conversion, granted slim chance, but also a penalty and automatic first. If you are going to accept it you have to rush more than 3. If he has all that time to sit back it just allows more opportunity for a hold down field or a player to get open. If he throws a pick so what? Like a punt.

not to mention this is college kicking. Absolutely no certainty they make the kick anyway.
