Syracuse head coach Scott Shafer is about to begin his weekly teleconference. Updates to come.
Shafer: Freshman QB Eric Dungey will take 4 of every 6 reps with the first team. Took 2 of 6 during Rhode Island prep week.
Shafer speaks highly of freshman RB Jordan Fredericks. Says he, McFarlane and Morris will be "three horses" this year.
Shafer asked about injured hybrid Erv Philips. He says all injury updates will provided per ACC policy (on Thursday).
Shafer on Dungey: "It's funny because he's almost too quick on his reads sometimes."
Shafer: QB Terrel Hunt is having his surgery currently. Syracuse will apply for a sixth year waiver. "It'll just be a wait and see w/ NCAA."
Shafer said he's never been a part of this kind of waiver. "It'll be a little been of a learning curve for me."
Shafer said Ron Thompson and John Raymon are "full go." Both are taking full practice reps.
Shafer: QB AJ Long is healthy and working on his mechanics. Appeared to have limitations lifted toward the very end of camp.
Shafer said Dungey's feet have caught up to his mind, impressive for a frosh. Showed in his throws on the run/after turning against URI.
Shafer asked about Hunt's chances of a sixth year: "I really have no idea. I'm not that familiar with the process."
Shafer said he wants to see more big hits from his defense. They had four against URI. The staff likes to see 5+.
Not much else notable from Shafer on the call.
