Wake Postgame

I will say Red made a nice adjustment to our offense in the first half of the game. It looked to be by design and it actually worked we got our best players Freeman/Kingz shots on that end of the court. It also benefited White when he was in.

I’m not worried about Sadiq. When it’s a new staff next year I’m sure they’ll mend the relationship and come with the cash. I could see him starting at the 4 next year regardless of the coach
He’s 6’9” and only 195 lbs, to play power forward I would think he’d need to gain some weight and strength to battle underneath.

Red admitted postgame what we’ve been saying for weeks. This team is not physically or mentally tough. When putting together next year’s team, you better find guys who want to bring it give it out every game.
You get tough in August. This team wasn’t prepared. Pretty sure Red told us all year how tough certain guys were … during losses.

This is the first time he’s publicly questioned their toughness and it’s cuz his butt is on the line

Agreed with coach having one of his best pressers today. It's obvious how pissed off and disappointed he is in the team, as he should be.

He has weaknesses as a coach, but there's no denying that many players on this team have not played their hardest in every game this year, and have given up completely at this point. A coach can only light a fire so much.

Players at this level need to have that internal fire regardless of who the coach is. Lots of these guys just don't have it.

That is a culture problem and the culture is set by the head coach and senior leader JJ. Its been the same for a while now its not like this is a new problem this year. That is why we need to break away from the JB tree and go outside the family. We need to fix the culture of the program.

It’s just remarkable the difference in defensive effort and intensity we saw versus Houston compared to the disgraceful ole defense we saw today.
Has any player gotten better as the season has progressed? Kingz maybe?
This board is getting carried away regarding Donnie. Yes he’s inconsistent, not overly athletic, doesn’t go to the hole enough and at times soft. But he’s an excellent college player averaging 16 and 7 who will flourish with the right coaching. You may recall that Hodgson was his main recruiter at Alabama.

I hardly think the culture is bad because the head coach is from the SU family.
The culture is bad because Red is a bad coach and frankly has no clue how to inspire the team or hold them accountable.
Gerry turned the loser culture of Siena into a winning culture in 2 years.

Whether in or out of the SU family, the new coach has to change the culture to one of accountability, working hard, max effort and never surrender on the court.
If BH is the new head coach, hopefully that is a priority for him.

It is also vitally important when the team is being assembled to bring in a player who can be the unquestioned leader on the team and who can produce results in crunch time.
Right now, this team has literally no leader and never had one under Red.
Intangibles are important

I actually don't know if Kingz got better, his 3 pointers started to fall, which alot of us said they would, by the law of averages, and they have just given him chances he wasn't getting earlier. Not like he improved as a player.

His defense has been steadily getting worse. He’s got the JJ and George “Blowby Syndrome.”

Saying that at a presser at Kansas st will get you fired, lol

Why Anthony? I haven’t seen enough from him to warrant that.
Who cares, it's obvious after all these games our 2 starting guards suck, and don't deserve to play. I would rather see players who might have a future, then continue to play 2 players who have been .mostly bad all year. The season is done play the young people, sit the ones responsible for the bad record.

If we lose to Pitt, and they and Notre Dame win their last two games, you would be right. This is just crazy.
If we got to play at ACC tournament, this team can only win one game at most. The players lacks chemistry and the coach is average, and subpar in ACC standard.

I’m not sure if you can get soft players to play tough. It’s either in your DNA or it isn’t. You should still be able to play hard. There is a difference.
He’s had 3 yrs. These are his guys. I can assure you, a good coach would have made the tourney with this team

And he honestly is a terrible defender. Donnie Freeman is even worse. A literally horrific defensive showing. Whoever is here next year no matter how much money they are making will literally be shown the bench if they play like that. Nate Kingz Is literally the only player who is remotely capable of playing winning basketball. Utter garbage.

It’s sad. First half, when we got hot from 3pt range, it reminded me when JAB would be calm when other teams would do that against us. “Don’t worry, they will mean revert and we will win.”

The final 5-10 minutes were abysmal. Wake would get an uncontested layup or dunk. We would run out the shot clock like we were up 10 points. Guys standing around at the 3pt line doing nothings. Zero flow. Zero effort.
