Was basketball really invented in CNY?

This article brings up an interesting case that It was invented about an hour from Syracuse by a guy named Lambert Will and not James Naismith.

Wow, thanks for sharing. The Hall of Fame’s treatment of the family sounds super shady. A one-sentence line from a historian saying the story has been “debunked” with no evidence provided and no communication from anyone at the Hall for 10 years? And now they won’t return the family’s memorabilia after taking down the Lambert Will exhibit? The powers-that-be at the Hall have reasons to squelch this story and come off looking pretty underhanded. I hope the story gets some play in bigger media outlets and sparks more investigation.

Jim Boeheim invented basketball when he was a kid in Seneca Falls back in the 1800's, duh.

This is correct. Nobody noticed because he was so bad at it.

Sounds like the HOF leaders didn’t like the idea of moving from Springfield to beautiful Herkimer.

These origin stories are tough. When does basketball officially become basketball? Without clearly defined rules, who knows for sure how the game they apparently played in Herkimer worked, and how close it was to what we know today as basketball?

Look at football. For a long time, some thought Piscataway was the birthplace of football, but it turns out it was invented at McGill. Rutgers just engaged in some weird wrestling with fellow weirdos from Princeton.

Piscataway is actually just the birthplace of gonorrhea. Every place is special in its own way.

I guess the Canadians who wrongly state that basketball was invented in Canada could now be even more wrong. (Naismith was a Canadian who moved to the States and created (altered now?) basketball there)

Another take on New Jersey--you need to listen to the whole first verse.

They probably destroyed it. Then, the Will family has no evidence. I'll bet that was their thinking.

why did the dude write a letter to Neismith to discuss it. what connection did they have?
