Was last night's game...

I remember these same arguments on the football board on why we should keep Dino. Hey man if we go out and hire someone else it could be worse. We should be happy with mediocrity because of the unknown.

It literally couldn't be worse than what we are seeing on the court right now. The team plays uninspiring basketball for 90% of the game. Doesn't run any time of modern offense and has no idea how to play team defense. It can't get worse.
Exactly. If we were slightly worse, like BC or Miami level, would that really be much less enjoyable than what we have now?

Next year, when we are a fringe NIT team and posters are talking about how we can't lose Red and have the roster gutted, I hope they have the self awareness to realize what is holding the program down.

And no, it's not NIL, the portal, realignment, the phase of the moon, etc...

The only thing the two numbers have in common with each other is that they come out of the same budget. But even then, if it's $2m to fire Red, you can find a disgruntled booster to pay it. I'm sure there are plenty of them right now.

$2 mil to buyout Red based on what?

Also, how much are you earmarking for the new coach buyout and hire?

I didn't say we should keep Red, in fact I think it's time to move on.

It's the other way around that I'm getting at. People seem to think an outside hire would've been a sure thing, but it wasn't. The school had a ton of risk either way and we don't automatically win a game of woulda coulda shoulda. I mean, if an outside hire didn't pan out, I'm sure we'd be saying how we should've hired someone that better understood the program.

I mean, team could be 3-18 right now with nothing but 3-star commits. I guess in some ways that might've been preferable though as it would've forced the issue. :/
your last part seems like you’re getting what RF meant now. Even if we’re 3-18 right now with an outside hire, all the dirty work and the bandaid is already ripped off. Instead we still suck (quite frankly don’t care if we’re 9-12 or 3-18 it’s all a complete failure regardless.) And the bandaid is still full of adhesive and fully attached.

If their is someone that’s willing to pay $2 million to buy a coach out, then why is it so hard to get NIL money?

He's a first time head coach, I find it hard to believe he's making more than 1.5-2m a year. Granted I'm not sure how long his current deal is.

I get it, though -- because fans love their team.

I stayed up, too, even knowing / expecting that we were going to get pasted. We are coming up on a very difficult portion of the schedule, and we're not very good.

People were excited about beating Notre Dame -- when we were down 17 in the first half -- just so we could stay out of the bottom 3 and not miss the ACC tournament.

Expectations have changed. Which is sad.
This is where I disagree. Fans were excited about the ND comeback because you want to find hope and you’ll take and enjoy the wins where you can. That doesn’t meant that any fans are excited or enthused about the state or the direction of the program. The expectations of success haven’t changed. We just can’t do anything about it until this coaching staff is fired and a new leader brought in—or Red somehow figures out how to coach. Maybe Wildhack gives Red another year for various reasons, but if we aren’t a tourney team next season, I think there’s no doubt he’ll be shown the door. The rioters are already at the gate.

Okay, yeah, but isn't playing hard kind of a prerequisite of any true competitor and where it's rather innate? Why should that deserve any solace? In my younger days, even playing pick up/non-organized type affairs, etc. competing was simply a given, or you were told GTFOH. These dudes are playing at the highest collegiate level, so, forgive me if I kind of cringe when I see, hear, etc. about playing hard. Not to mention getting paid $$$ to boot, where quite of few of them are getting some significant coin.
Two things:

1) Again, the fans have quit on the team - I was just pointing that the players hadn't, because...
2) Many posters repeatedly state that the players have given up and don't play hard, with Bell being the figurehead whipping boy for this, and I just wanted to go on record and let the world know that, in fact, the players continue to play hard including Bell.

The players don't play hard the entire game that is a fact just watch the game. They may play hard in spurts but they clearly don't play hard for the majority of the game.

1 rebound in 5 games playing 95 total minutes from a forward is not playing hard.
Saying that about Bell is crazy. If you are playing hard you should be able to get 2 rebounds per game by accident. And that would be 9 more then he got which still isn't good.
