makes it obvious how ridiculously slanted the tournament is to the north Carolina teams. the fact that we were expelled this year, give me a level of distrust going forward as it is. but Greensboro, what a horrible place for a conference tourney. unfortunately, as a fan base we will have to make it a point to go there.

Tobacco Road mafia, baby! It's not a college atmosphere. No energy. No excitement. It's a gawld dang Cocktail party! Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!

Seems to me we (SU) were pretty much rescued from a worse fate by a primarily Southeastern conference. That Southeastern conference holds its tournament (at least this year) in a Southeastern location.

I, for one, am grateful for the spot in the ACC. And I am certainly not going to criticize the conference or the area of the country most of the schools are in. It's tantamount to being rescued from a dinghy floating in the ocean and then criticizing the amenities of the ship that rescued you.

And ... to add to this ... for someone from Central NY, to criticize any area of the country as being unsophisticated or bucolic or lacking in amenities takes a great deal of gall.

I'd say showing some gratitude might be in order.

and it won't be back until 2020 :)

DC, then 2 years in Brooklyn, then to Charlotte, back to Greensboro.

Once it really does well in Brooklyn, maybe the Greensboro rotation will be minimized.

Lol, is this for real?

Greensboro is an awful place to hold a tournament. Ive watched some ACC Tourney and it's getting **** on left and right by the B1G and even some of the smaller conf tourneys. Place is dead. No atmosphere. No fans except for the Carolina teams. I'm glad we're in the ACC but that doesn't mean I have to be excited to watch us play a conference tourney on a rotation that includes the morgue in Greensboro.

I feel for you...of course we could be at the XL this year playing

The ACC gave us a lifeline...we will have to show up in Brooklyn and get this thing started.

We will see if DC is any better ... or more to your tastes. But I expect there will be whining about that venue too.

It's different in the gym, I was surprised last year how the place doesn't translate to TV. It was plenty loud.

Shame we spit the bit against NC State, playing Duke in there would've been great.

That being said it's 15 school conference, it's too big for Greensboro.

Greensboro is actually a pretty good venue. Should be packed tonight for UVA/UNC and Duke all playing. Sure, nobody shows up for ND/Miami, but nobody showed up for USF/Marquette at MSG either.

I've heard this elsewhere as well. It really doesnt. On tv it sounds awful and doesnt look much better. Bizarre.

my problem is its greensboro.

ive been there, it really does suck for fun around the venue.

even the Knick in Albany would be better.

the ACC tourny should be in a big City, not in the sticks.

its time to grow up.

im all for them keeping a rotation, we have to let go of what the BET@MSG was, but put it in raleigh or charlotte in addition to DC and of course NYC.

but try like hell for MSG...for theres nothing like it.

Yeah the real complaint is with the location of the venue rather than the venue itself. SU fans should pack the place for the next 3 years in DC and Brooklyn twice

I'm just guessing that fewer ACC fans would show up at a NYC-area arena from GA, NC, SC and VA than fans from NJ, NY, CT, and RI. did for the BE Tourneys.

Some want to somehow replicate the BE and BE Tourney with ACC schools. That ship --- the Big East ship --- has sailed.

Raleigh is no different than Greensboro - big arena in a massive parking lot. Tents and tailgating.

The Greensboro experience wouldn't be so bad if the joint was in or attached to their downtown.

oh absolutely.

i think what will happen is these things will be like bowls...rotating every year.

MSG will have the b1g 1 year, the ACC the next, the bigeast the next etc.

maybe its 2 confs in a rotation, maybe its 3??

maybe the confs stay for 2 years, maybe 1??

it will keep it fresh attendence wise for MSG.

i dont know anything, but i see that coming.

Syracuse-Duke-UNC-Louisville would all have huge showings, as they would anywhere, but I think that would be amplified in NYC. Notre Dame and Pitt would also probably show well. You'd also have the casual fan showing up for it as "an event" and don't get it twisted, fans will travel for the tourney in NYC. Virginia to NYC is driveable and NC State fans would most likely travel well. Every other school wouldn't show up if it was in their backyard anyway.

I had a similar response when I read this one!

The north south thing really sucks and we will be lucky to get the terminal in the north 25% of the time. We need to add UConn to give us more balance with north and south

If you want to be the elite basketball conference in the country, play your conference tournament in MSG.

Not south of the mason dixon, not Philly, not Brooklyn.

MSG.

BTW, it kills me to see the fans of the BE teams here roaming about.

Pining for the days where I coud duck out of work for a loooong lunch to catch a Cuse game.

Everyone who wishes for a Syracuse stadium at Skytop should read these posts.

I don't care what region it's in, an arena in the suburbs sucks.

We are all preaching to the choir here...

BL: The prevailing attitude of Southerners is anything north of DC is out of the question. They are the most provincial group of people in the US. The NC Mafia loves driving to the games and they think NYC is like what they saw in the Deathwish 1 thru 4 movies on Roku.

To them the tourney is about driving to the games, staying in a motel by the Interstate, bringing your sticks to play some golf and to argue about which type of BBQ is best.

Syracuse or no Syracuse, you put tonight's semifinal in the Garden, with four of the top eleven teams in the country, and it would be a sellout and the atmosphere would be electric.

It was NYC and the Garden that made the Big East tourney, not the other way around.

The Big East may have sailed but 33rd and 7th is still there and it ain't going anywhere.

If your conference has quality basketball, the fans will come to wat4ch...

Ya, it sure looked exciting (?).

Ahaa.

I think I see the problem.

You are looking at total seats sold or occupied and the ACC cares a lot about just who is in those seats.

The difference between Villanova or Georgetown or Providence and the ACC is that ACC schools have very large and very loyal booster organizations that must be catered to. The Terrapin Club --- which is the one I am familiar with --- has thousands of members and a number of big donors. (I know MD is now in the B1G, but its an example).

These groups need to be catered to. So if they are in favor of NYC --- or can eventually be sold on it --- the its a good idea. If they are against it, it won't fly.

The ACC has to serve two masters.
