I just received an email from Scout saying that SU just received a new commitment and I checked the list and it said Wayne Williams 9/3/13. I wondered if he was cleared today by the NCAA clearinghouse?

No he won't be here until January, if he makes it at all. He has to spend another semester at ASA to graduate.

Nope. 2014.

Yes but I would rather have him here Dec/Jan to participate in bowl practices, bowl game, spring practice and spring game to get a leg up on learning the defensive so he can contribute early in 2014. If not now, Dec/Jan is next best option.

I don't think that "December" is an option. IF WW makes it here, he can not enroll until January (2nd semester) and would not be allowed to participate in "bowl practices" as he will not be on scholarship until the 2014-15 season.

I know Williams is a common name, but three in one class?

And two (fingers crossed) 'Tyler's in a hoops class.

Maybe Gross has the coaches on to something...

Not to mention we have to actually get to a bowl game. I think we will, but this weekend is a huge game in taking that step, and shutting up Mike Greenburg as well!

Well if he graduated already, then he should be in the gym all day everyday... Need him to fill big Jay Bromley's spot! Get in shape big Wayne!!!

3 years of eligibility?

@KevinTFitz
Former 3-star DT Wayne Williams will enroll at #SU in January. He's squared it away w/ DL Coach Tim Daoust.

@KevinTFitz
Williams graduated from ASA College (Brooklyn) in September. Said he worked hard to graduate...Raised GPA from 1.6 all the way to a 3.2. #SU

Edit: Nails beat me to it. Dick.
I'll give you a sympathy "like" just because it's Thursday and tomorrow I'm heading Maryland with my wife

This is great news. A huge buffer if Raymon can't make it back next year (which may be likely).

Awesome news!

I had some serious doubts that this was turning into a Dom Timbers or Dale Peterman goes to JUCO saga but glad to be proven wrong. Well done Wayne!

Agreed--huge pickup. Figuratively and literally.

Like you, I haven't been optimistic about Wayne Williams's chances of ever landing on the hill. Glad he put in the work in the classroom to make it happen. Sky is the limit for this kid. He's got NFL size / athleticism.

If there any more out there with high end reputationsnamed Williams,bring them all in I'll use the numbers to sort them out and what they do on the field. No problem with either means to the right "Williams".

why do you say that? just curious

Let's hope he continues on with that type of GPA at SU and not pull a Flab Melo.

Because of the severity of Raymon's injury. I believe he tore all 3 ligaments in his knee.

it's harder to get a 1.6 GPA than it is to blow a 1.6 BAC

This kid is going to play with a gigantic chip on his shoulder. I love it he is going to make us forget about Ishaq.
