Tipoff is slated for 4 p.m. in Warden Arena on the campus of Rollins College in Orlando, Fla. In its most recent game, Syracuse suffered a 74-72 setback to No. 9/9 Baylor on Dec. 19 in the opening game of the Florida Sunshine Classic. The Orange led with less than two minutes remaining in regulation, but could not hold on against the Lady Bears. Michigan State marks the third nationally-ranked opponent Syracuse has faced during the 2014-15 season. In its two previous games against top-25 opponents, the Orange lost by four to No. 1/2 South Carolina, 67-63, at the Junkanoo Jam and defeated by No. 9/9 Baylor, 74-72, at the Florida Sunshine Classic. Spark off the Bench Senior guard Diamond Henderson has served the 2014-15 Syracuse women's basketball teams as a spark off the bench thus far this season. Henderson ranks third on the team in scoring and 30th in the ACC at 11.4 points per game. Henderson showed what she could do against the nation's elite on Dec. 19 against No. 9/9 Baylor at the Florida Sunshine Classic. She scored a season-best 27 points on 5-of-7 shooting from beyond the 3-point arc against the Lady Bears. It marked the first time that a member of the Orange eclipsed the 25-point plateau since Brianna Butler scored 25 points at Boston College on Feb. 16, 2014. In her second game in an Orange uniform, Henderson exploded for 22 points in 22 minutes of play at Duquesne. The Kennesaw, Ga. native was a perfect 3-for-3 from downtown against the Dukes and was 5-for-6 from the free throw line. Against Vermont on Dev. 1, Henderson led the team with 16 points off the bench. Including her first three seasons at Tennessee Tech, Henderson has scored in double-figures on 61 different occasions. Against the Best With No. 18/21 Michigan State on the slate next, Syracuse will play a nationally-ranked opponent for the third time this year. Syracuse took No. 1/2 South Carolina to the wire at the Junkanoo Jam on Nov. 28. The Orange led with two minutes remaining against the top-ranked Gamecocks, but ultimately suffered a 67-63 setback. Against No. 9/9 Baylor, Syracuse once again led with less than two minutes to go, but lost 74-72 on Dec. 19 at the Florida Sunshine Classic. Under head coach Quentin Hillsman, Syracuse owns a 10-45 mark (.182) against top-25 competition. The team's latest win against a top-25 team came on Jan. 30, 2014 against No. 6/6 North Carolina. The Orange recorded a 78-73 victory on the road in Chapel Hill, N.C. Dating back to last season, Syracuse's last three losses have all been to top-15 opposition. The Orange has lost by a combined 11 points to No. 10/11 Kentucky, No. 1/2 Baylor, and No. 9/9 Baylor. In addition, the club has played all of those games without 2013-14 season leading scorer Brittney Sykes. Series Breakdown Sunday afternoon's matchup marks the first meeting all-time between Syracuse and Michigan State. It marks the fourth team Syracuse has seen for the first time during the 2014-15 season. The Orange are a perfect 3-0 against first-time opponents this year, defeating Jacksonville, East Carolina, and North Carolina Central.
