Nationally-Ranked Class Set to Join Orange
Hillsman signs the No. 21 class in the country
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse University head women's basketball coach Quentin Hillsman announced the signing of four high school seniors to National Letters of Intent in 2015-16: forward Julia Chandler, guard Davida Dale, guard Abby Grant, and forward Jade Phillips. The class has been ranked No. 21 nationally by the Dan Olson Collegiate Girls Basketball Report is highlighted by three incoming student-athletes in the espnW Hoopgurlz 100 Rankings.
"I think going into this class, we knew that we had to add depth to every position," commented Hillsman. "I feel that we did a really god job of getting four players that are different. We just did everything we could to make sure we got a lot of balance on this signing class. Having the No. 21 class in the country proves that we got good players and depth at every spot."
Julia Chandler
The 6-2 post player from Northern Secondary School in Toronto, Canada is a four-star recruit, according to espnW Hoopgurlz. She is rated the No. 80 player in the Class of 2015. Chandler has a scout grade of 94 and is the 14th-ranked post player in the class.
In 2013, she joined the Canadian U16 national team, helping them to a runner-up finish at the FIBA U16 World Championships in Mexico. Chandler averaged 9.8 points and 4.6 rebounds per game at the World Championships. She was named to the Canadian U17 national team in 2014, as well.
"Julia is very good player, inside and outside," added Hillsman. "She brings a lot of versatility to that position for us at the four slot. She can post up, get big, and make shots in the paint. She can pop out and shoot the three. She is going to be a player that is going to be a real tough matchup for anybody playing us."
The espnW Hoopgurlz evaluation of Chandler said: "Low-post performer delivers with consistent interior game; blue-collar back-to-basket game yields results in traffic; physical on glass, mobile in up-tempo."
Davida Dale
The 5-9 guard hails from Providence, R.I. native and attends St. Andrew's. According to espnW Hoopgurlz, she is a four-star recruit and the 85th-ranked player in the Class of 2015. Dale owns a scout grade of 94 and rates as the 18th-ranked guard in the class, as well.
One of the top high school players in the state of Rhode, Dale helped La Salle Academy to two straight Division I championships from 2012-13. She was named the most valuable player of the 2013 state tournament after tallying 16 points, 10 boards, six assists, and four steals in the final.
"She is really big point guard," said Hillsman. "She can really handle the ball. She shoots the ball well. She is a really tough guard. She is a very, very good athlete. We are just looking forward to her coming in and making plays for us."
The espnW Hoopgurlz evaluation of Dale read: "Explosively athletic combo-guard with size in the backcourt handles and attacks in transition; finishes with body control to rim; manufactures in mid-range game; active in passing lanes, finishes off of turnovers; suspect 3-point threat."
Abby Grant
A 5-9 guard from Suwanee, Ga., Grant attends Saint Francis. She is a three-star recruit according to espnW Hoopgurlz. Grant has a scout grade of 89 and the 53rd-ranked guard in the Class of 2015.
As a sophomore, Grant guided Saint Francis to its first-ever GHSA Class A Private state championship. Last season, she earned Second Team All-State Class A honors from the Georgia Sportswriters Association.
"Abby has very deep range," stated Hillsman. "She shoots the ball five, six steps behind the 3-point line. She is a knockdown shooter. In my opinion, she is the best shooter in that class. I think a lot of publications would echo the same thing. She can really shoot the ball."
The espnW Hoopgurlz evaluation of Grant said: "Fundamental off-guard with deceptive quickness offers consistent mid-range threat to the arc; reads spacing, curls, utilizes screens; stretches the defense, shooter."
Jade Phillips
A 6-1 wing player from Raleigh, N.C. and Southeast Raleigh attendee, Phillips has been recognized by espnW Hoopgurlz as a four-star recruit. She is ranked the 83rd in the Class of 2015 and has a scout grade of 94. In addition, she is the 12th-rated wing player in the class.

Phillips was named the most valuable player of the Class AAAA Eastern Regional, after a 24-point, 12-rebound performance in the regional final. As a sophomore, she helped Southeast Raleigh to a 30-1 overall record and trip to the state semifinals.
"Jade is a super athlete," said Hillsman. "Jade plays up on the rim. She really runs the floor. She can really score in the open floor, in transition. We are really excited about inserting her into our lineup, our system, and the way that we play."
The espnW Hoopgurlz evaluation of Phillips commented: "Versatile, athletic perimeter performer rebounds and attacks in transition; handles and elevates in mid-range game to the arc with confident persona; mismatch producer, active on glass, in passing lanes."
