We Are Number One!

Just a fact, attendance doesn't equal tickets sold. If 20,500 season tickets were sold ,I imagine logically every home game starts with that attendance.

...

We're ultimately going to have to agree to disagree on this subject and you're right about the second sentence: announced attendance goes up from whatever the season ticket sales figure is.

Not sure what you mean by the first, though. Announced attendance is typically account of tickets distributed (if not technically 'sold' - those Fort Drum families at the game may or may not have paid for tickets, but SU provided a certain number and they're in the attendance count, as are the school groups and team allotment and other tickets that are sent out into the community).

SU also does some tricky accounting with the family section and the student section; rather than reflect tickets sold or distributed, they count those sections as full for attendance purposes regardless of how many have been sold. For big league games they count every upper deck student overflow seat toward the attendance, even when no students buy them and the entire section in 301 gets to move into the empty student seats to their left.

Finally, they're counting unsold seats in 305, 306, 314, 315, 316, 317 (in addition to the family section seats) and sometimes 318 for a number of the league games.

Aren't those season tickets? If they sold them then they are there, attendance-wise for every game regardless if they show. Isn't that how it works? Heck there were courtside seats empty - they were sold - people just didn't show.

That's true. Same with all those empties in 123 and 124. They're obviously sold and will be counted toward attendance.

It's the chunks of 100 empty seats in 314 and 315 that are the red flag. Even if 75% of the ticket holders in those areas didn't show up for the game, there would still be a number of fans up there. If they're 100% empty, they never sold in the first place.
