We are ranked 8th on RPI according to Yahoo Sports.

My guess is the formula like our win against Bryant because of how well they shot from the 3 point line in that game. They cooled off some and were damn near 50% at the end.

Unlike BPI, RPI doesn't factor in how teams won. The formula just use win or loss to calculate RPI point. It doesn't matter if you won by 1 point or 50 points.

BPI, RPI, KenPom are all unreliable to certain degrees at this time of year.

RPI being the stupidest thing to even look at at this point and totally unreliable. Total waste of time. At least BPI and KenPom are based on some rationale that considers prior year as a baseline, returning players - so they are worth looking at for some baseline right now especially to try to value mid-majors you are playing. But I think KP has mentioned in the past that it takes about 8 games for his rankings to start to show what he wants them to show.

RPI is pretty sketchy over a full year -- over first 5 games, based on its simplistic formula it will throw out pure garbage. Furthermore RPI is not even used by the committee anymore -- its NET which I don't think allows for an up to date calculation like RPI.

I just browed the RPI and noted 1-2 Loyola Marymount is #17. I am now dumber for having googled current RPI and looking at the current rankings.

Understand, but "somebody" has to input that formula

For those wondering the RPI formula is, its not that complicated.
25% of your RPI is you Winning Percentage
50% of it is the Winning Percentage of your Opponents
25% of it is the Winning Percentage of your Opponent's Opponents
(I may have the 2nd and 3rd factor backwards in terms of 25/50)
There is also a 1.4 factor given for road wins.

You can see when the sample is so small that factors 2) and 3) above will cause problems. It was "OK" at best. after a number of games are played. But early, it will just create nonsense -- it was never meant to be reliable early.
