We beat Virginia Saturday

Do you believe Pitt will make the tourney this year?
If they continue playing at the rate they are now, I believe they will. Not that they’re going to win the ACC. If they stay in the top five, they’ll get in. Their worst loss was to Vanderbilt by 1.

Agree on much - but the big ugly elephant that goes by Colgate and Bryant aren't good . They are huge weights we have to overcome.

The next two games are massively important for our hopes to offset those losses. We manage that and things look a bit different
While I don’t think it will happen, if we finish in the top five of the ACC and play to our seed in the conference tourney, I think we’ll get in. IMO you’re overvaluing the losses to Colgate and Bryant. We went through this with Colgate last year. Their NET improved over the course of the season and they wound up in the tournament. Bryant could also make the tournament this year. Even if they don’t, it’s a survivable loss.

A week or so ago, people were saying Pitt was an awful loss. How’d that age?

We just have too many losses that we’re even talking about!

If we were good we’d be 13-2, 14-1 right now. Illinois was the only squad we played(and on the road). This schedule was set up to be “easy”.

But yeah, if we improve a lot and go like 14-6 in the ACC or something, we’ll have a shot.

Feels like we’ll go 10-10, maybe 11-9 though given who we’ve already lost to.

That can't possibly be, that was a bad loss when they barely beat us in the Dome and we're just AWFUL according to some of the geniuses here. So Pitt clearly sucks, duh.
How does it feel to be in denial?

Pitt was a crap loss because of how terribly SU played the first 3/4 of the game, not because of Pitt itself.

i dont think we're good. but lord have mercy, i dont think college basketball is good. had mintz not got kicked out of the bryant game, we likely win. how different would we look at the season if we only had the colgate bad loss and were 11-4?

The issue is also that we failed our only true tests against Illinois and St Johns with the latter looking borderline albeit not yet a "bad loss". We don't have a non conference win that comes close to helping us offset even one of those losses so we have to get big conference wins. Top 5 only helps if we get a handful of wins vs UVA, UNC, Duke, VT and Miami with VT fading a bit.

Sentence one is spot on. Is Pitt good? Who knows, I do think they are better than given credit for on the board, but in college hoops you don't have to be good, just less sucky than your opponent. Last night Cuse game...exhibit A. College basketball is dreadful.

Agree. Colgate is 127 and Bryant is 153 in NET rankings. I'm not sure I would bet on those turning into good losses now that their only playing conference opponents now. We're going to need some quality wins, not just a decent quantity.

The Clark/Judah matchup will be interesting. Clark is crafty and smart so Judah will have to make good decisions, and it will take a team effort to win this game. If we have a number of our key guys not show up, we will get blown out.

Not to mention overcoming the lack of success in the non conference means we have to be more than just good in conference. Go back to 20-21 and we lost to Rutgers in that condensed season and then beat UB at home. Outside of that there were no lows or moderate highs. This year we have two lows and nothing to offset. Unlike that year, two games over .500 in conference will not get it done.

It wouldn't shock me. Virginia isn't playing at the same level they did in November and early December.

That said we seem to have big problems with Kihei Clark every time we play them.

We will continue to have problems if we don't defend the 3 point shot. We give up too many wide open threes and don't make adjustments. Our perimeter defenders need to stick to the shooters and force them to put the ball on the floor or force the ball inside. When we do that the results are usually good as most of the teams that have beaten us with the three (Colgate, Bryant) are not very good dribble penetrators. When we got out on Louisville last night they were rattled and took bad shots or the shot clock expired. We are better off giving up 2 points rather than 3.

Kihei Clark must be in his ninth year at uva lol. I live in Charlottesville so I will be at the game.

UVA hasn’t been shooting the ball very well lately. We absolutely need to keep Clark from penetrating and make it tough for him to dump it into it to whoever they put in the lane. Bell could be a liability in this one as we will need every rebound we can get. UVA scores a lot off of second chance points. I could see a big game from Maliq if we are to win. And we’re going to need an active Benny.

bball is not a vacuum.. its not only about how bad we play or games we win its about how other teams play. we have 10 more games against teams that are right now the bottom 9 in the league. that leaves Virg(2)/Duke/CLemson/Miami/wake

can we got 6-3 2/4 and thats 18-12 and top 5 in the ACC?

look at other leagues
5 solid teams if you count Creighton in the BE playing well
who knows what Mich is a 8-5 in the B10
5 solid teams in the P12
Sec/B12 are all over with teams with great records are the all good?

We are a middle of the road team and 4-5 of those always find a way to get into this thing.

Both Duke and Miami lost last night. Wow. And Duke was absolutely embarrassed.

Only if this school shows up

They aren’t a good defensive rebounding team, they don’t run anyone off the three-point line and they aren’t a good jump shooting team. I wouldn’t bet on us winning but it’s not difficult to see it happening.

They’re currently shooting 37% from 3 and have 3 guys seeing significant minutes shooting 40%+, that’s scary…
